As title says.
ie. 3" mandrel bent stainless or mild steel from turbo back.
Any advantage to stainless other than increased life/lighter wallet?

I couldnt see how it could make that much difference.. its only to let the fart out, im also not really sold on 'normal' vehicles that Mandrel makes any worthwhile difference to power. Maybe on serious high powered machines where every mhp(micro horsepower) makes a difference.
would be interesting to see non mandrel and Mandrel against each other on 1 car same day...

the only difference is the note you will get and the fact that a stainless exhaust will last fuckloads longer then a normal one.

Advantages......
phukin long life ...will see out the car more n likely !!
dissapates heat twice as quick compared to mild steel
handles the shock of cold water dunking better than mild steel
higher tensile steel than mild steel ....so its stronger and will hold its shape better
doesnt stain easilly .... for those that want that shinny bling zorst tip thing
lighter than a mild steel system ( almost half the weight ! )
louder zorst note
wont corrode from the inside out from all the chemicls in the zorst fumes
Disadvantages....
cost !!!
will crack because of the higher tensile if not supported correctly
more susectible to dammage ( because of the higher tensile the manafactures generally use a thinner tube stainless pipe compared to the mild steel equlivant, while it wont pierce easilly it can be crushed much easier than mild steel)
non mandrel bends tend to flex much more and will crack after a period of time, thats why mandrel bends are recamended.
zorst note resonates through the pie much louder.
cant be easilly welded by the novice handyman and will crack at the weld because ppl weld em with mild steel wire instead of stainless wire.
not all that common at zorst specialists outside metro areas.
personally I wouldn't be without mine but its a heavy wall stainless pipe and is fully mandrel bent. I run stainless on my daily driven diesel MQ and stainless on the 350 chevy powered MQ aswell.
its all goooooooooooooooooooooood

I have heard only the first few bends are critical with mandrel bends i.e.: the extractors.
The rest of the exhaust wont see any gains having mandrel through the whole system.

i
had a 83 honda (imported) and even the box looked new all s/sdissapates heat twice as quick compared to mild steel it
conducts heat far worse than mild steel which is why when you oxy bend it the heat can't dissapate as well so concentrates and gets a bigger cherryhandles the shock of cold water dunking better than mild steel it gets far more stress than mild
higher tensile steel than mild steel ....so its stronger and will hold its shape better
doesnt stain easilly .... for those that want that shinny bling zorst tip thing
lighter than a mild steel system ( almost half the weight ! )
almost exactly same weight when same wall thickness is used
louder zorst notewont corrode from the inside out from all the chemicls in the zorst fumes
Disadvantages....
cost !!!
will crack because of the higher tensile if not supported correctly
more susectible to dammage ( because of the higher tensile the manafactures generally use a thinner tube stainless pipe compared to the mild steel equlivant, while it wont pierce easilly it can be crushed much easier than mild steel)
but springs back betternon mandrel bends tend to flex much more and will crack after a period of time, thats why mandrel bends are recamended.
mandrel bends have a constant cross section hance flow much better compared to the crush bends with greatly reduced areazorst note resonates through the pie much louder.
cant be easilly welded by the novice handyman
stainless rods for the arc and gentle tacks (real pain on the thin stuff) and will crack at the weld because ppl weld em with mild steel wire instead of stainless wire.

i love the stainless pipes - just knowing you have one is enough. i had a twin 21/2 on the bundy with corvette 350. the pipes were 1.5 m long sticking out the sides.
i am sticking to mild steel headers on my gq gen 3 and stainless from the y's back
i try to make everything i can outa the stuff - love those scrap yards at $3 a kg and midway metals for the mandral bends

Thank you, that is the sort of answer I was after!
What is the approximate price difference, ie double, triple?
Cheers.

It's the mufflers / resonators that are the big cost in stainless systems.
How about ceramic coating

Mate of mine that is right into rally driving swears on ceramic coating the inside and outsidr of extractors, smoother finish, better scavanging.. He is in Sydney but recommends a place in Brisbane.
He used to break a lot when they were hot, reckons that stopped when he got them coated also..
PM me if you want me to dig up the name of that joint....
