Any external difference between 4.6 and 3.9?

Just wondering if I would be able to bolt all of the ancillary equipment attached to my '93 3.9 onto a later model 4.6?

Can all my earlier model exhaust and inlet, manifolds fit?

Can my existing a/c, power steer, alternator and water pump be bolted to the 4.6? My engine is running vee belts, and I like it that way! :D

I have a Oct '93 Disco. Now have R380 conversion, LT77 went out to lunch a little while ago. Injection system is playing up, so if I'm gonna go and Megasquirt it I can also increase the engine size.

As always, I appreciate what you guys have to say!

There is very little difference between them and you can use all you ancillaries. I have heard that the crank is longer and there may be issues with using your 3.9 balancer.

'Spose thewre's always the bodgy spacer ideas.......

Most seem to do autos with this engine. I wonder if anyone knows if a 3.9's flywheel on the end of it will throw out the balance?

Everything is swappable - but the 4.6 crank is longer. All you need is a small spacer made up, have a look here about halfway down the page:

Thanks boss!

Appears the only real difference is the oil pump. The later one is in the housing as a fixture, not a replacable part on its own. The longer crank snout only requires a spacer to be turned up.

The cam would need to be changed to run the earlier model dizzy as well.

And how good does that 5.2 look on RPI's web site!!!

It's a pity our dollar only buys 38p
