Outer Limits 4x4 Board

building a buggy using a 2.4 hilux diseal motor, what is the absolute minimum wiring i can use, all i really want is enough so it can run, a couple of gauges for legality reasons and a few lights thats all

what wiring do diseals need???????

Fuel shut-off solenoid, glow system, starter main pos and crank wire, temp and oil pressure sender wires, alternator wiring. I think thats about it.
Better to use a hilux loom and then delete the circuits that you don't need.

you'd be pretty silly not to though. $50 worth of gauges and wiring now or $1000 worth or more of blown up motor later.


you don't need to transfer the entire glow system out of the hilux, you can just wire up a push button to a solenoid so you have to hold the button in to glow, much simpler than trying to transplant then entire glow system.

The glow system is fairly simple to make work. But a press button is easier, just don't hold it on for too long. Some have droping resistors to cut the voltage to the plugs.

yes the early ones are pretty simple - after about 1984 (?) they all have superglow and it's a mess of resistors, relays, control boxes etc. the resistors are usually mounted on the inlet manifold and if they're there, whack them in series with the plugs, or toss the 7v plugs and grab some 12v ones instead.
