Bruce,

on the end of the button that resets the trip meter are small plastic feet which press against raised sections of the dials thus reseting them. Pressing too hard on the button, breaks these feet. The only way to fix is to find another trip meter at the wreckers or try glueing the broken feet. I tried this but was unsuccessful so i ended up getting another instrument panel from the swap meet. Works fine now

An old thread I know, but mine just stopped on 142k, trip and odometer both dont work, woop, would this be the problem you described - ie would it stop the odometer as well as the trip?
Anyone know if its repairable or should i get hold of a spare before i take the instrument panel off?
Thanks for replies!

There is a small electric motor that drives the odometer and trip meter via a tiny drive shaft. On the end, is a small plastic worm gear that turns the trip and odo. The motor is attached to the speedo's circuit board, and gets its power from there. Sometimes, the trip-meter can be very difficult to reset due to the plastic feet that push against the dials breaking....

Cool, thanks guys, i'll open it up and have a look, good excuse to put a headlight beeper in at the same time as the dash is apart! - drive to work just before sunrise and is often daylight when i get there, plenty of lights get left on.
Might have to go back to the good old MQ shorty for a little while. :)
