Hi all,
I've done the seal just behind the pulley on the a/c compressor, the weather was (winters back today in Sydney) warming up and I need to rebuild it. Been quoted around $600 for a rebuild, so I'll try it my self first.Anyone have an exploded diagram for this? Any other input/tips would be great.
Cheers,
Rough60.

Has anyone pulled one apart?
Or am I the first unlucky bugger it has happened to?

Go to a wrecker and pick up another, surely uo could find 1 cheaper than $600.. other than that, keep a good mental picture of how you have pulled it apart...?

tried a couple of local wreckers but people seem to snatch them up pretty quick to use as air compressors.

I replaced the A/C compressor on my 60 Series Sahara about 4 years ago - got one from a 80's model Celica at the local wrecker for $50 - they are exactly the same except the Celica ones have extra "bolt ears" on all sides - you just cut the ones off that aren't on the compressor you have now to give you extra room if you need it.
You would be surprised what other Toyota cars share with 4 Wheel drives, eg. power steering pump on some model cressidas etc. and because your not buying for a Landcruiser you can buy them for a fraction of the cost. Down here in Melbourne we have Pick-a-Part where you can get the parts off cars yourself. Not sure where you are, but if you have something similar nearby, go one day and browse through Toyota cars.
Cheers,
Tom.
