vitara motor conversion vs cheering up a tires 1.3

All right you guru's o' the engine conversions. Could someone please fill me in on how to go about getting one of the following done:

1. Changing the 'Rings' on a smokey 1.3 and getting a compression test?

2. Changing the motor over to a 1.6 vitara motor (with or without EFI)?

The current scenario is that my 1.3 is smoking a bit and i have been told that it may be as easy to fix as a changing of the rings? But since i am considering going for a 1.6 vitara motor in the near future i thought i would check out the cost comparisson and perhaps get that done instead.

Note: I don't plan on doing any of the work myself so i would imagine that i would be paying someone to do the conversion.

Thanks,
Greg

2 litres would be a lot of engine for such a little tin can of a car though... not so sure that it would be as straight forward a conversion as the 1600 "bolt on" vitara would be.

interesting idea though - one of the fellows in the suzi club has a 2L vitara motor in his shed waiting to go to work.

i was thinking about the 1.6L 20v engine - if one does exist??

maybe have a go at the 1.3 reco and keep your ears to the ground about engines. you'll find something sooner or later if you check the papers and the crash damaged cars in the auctions.

bigger is better!! but i suppose now that you have good gears, you don't need a big engine.

Vitara 20 valve? You sure you're not thinking Toyota 4AGE 20 valve?

good one NAM, what g'box are you going to use?? as the pattern is different from 1600 to 2ltr, so he would have to cut all the cross members out to accomodate a vitara g'box and t'case.....

just jam a 1600 in put crawlers in the t'case and hilux's with 4.88's & your are good to go with 35's (easily do 120kph)
