Radiator in Rear

Anyone run a radiator in the rear? Am thinking of putting mine in the tray on the lux, as its becoming a hassle to find one that fits with the engine conversion.
Pros and Cons?
Do I need another pump?
Any info would be great!

You would prob want to run a Davies.Craig style electric water pump and adjust the flow rate to suit, as when you move the radiator to the back of the rig, the volume of the cooling system increases past what most factory water pumps would handle safely. Esp. if ya plan to mod the engine, as then cooling becomes even more inmportant.

Radiator in Rear

I run a rear radiator in my lux and have not bothered changing the water pump and it seems to cool okay. My lux is strictly off road though, so I cant vouch for road speeds, but on the tracks it is fine. I used aluminiumised (SP) Exhaust pipe to carry the pipes to the rear. Just watch these when working on the car when hot. (They bite, trust me) I ran a older crusier radiator for more capacity in the system. Flow seems to be pretty good.

If you keep it to screwed fitting it should be OK, but if you are welding, then the welds will rust very quickly and cause radiator blockage

hmm... so not a good idea to weld a bracket to the outside of the pipe for the purposes of mounting?

no but a decent cam tyupe hose clamp onto a bracket would be fine......I use these to secure HP hose to hose tails, just remeber to put the on before you join everything together

continuing with this would this be a legal mod in QLD? as in ur not moving any structual shiat, or would one get done for it blocking the rear view mirror?

all the trucks at work have a rear view mirror fitted but are next to useless with the bodies fitted on them. They just have to be in there for rego rules or something. Unless the ruels are different for utes, what if you had a canopy with no window, see plenty of them around Rocklea that can't see out the back.

I run mine in the rear , dual davies criags ,
Bigest problem i encountered is air pockets even with three bleed pionts .
Your temp gauge might not pick up the problem until its too late ,
So as a rule of thumb , run it for short periods bleeding it over and over till your satified its water not air in there , On the V6 i run a expansion tank up the front on the normal outlets , behind the head i run an inline
Water filter with a removable cap , on the radiator where the expansion usaully exits i run a air hose 1/2 inch ball rooster valve Being a 3 core RR hawvy duty there is no radiator cap attached to the rad .
Exhaust tube , Does fine easy to bend and cheap too .
million ways to do it
Larry.

Saw a couple of trucks and buggies at tough truck on the weekend with this setup. Looked good although some of them had the radiator mounted directly over the exhaust with the thermo's drawing air straight from on top of the exhaust.

Wouldn't that defeat the purpose a bit???

Ive seen a few with over heating probs not so much when there crawling around but on the road .
Jmo if you intend on actually driving for extended periods at highway speeds You need to think about where the air is going to come from ,
I don,t intend to use my tray as a tray have just enough room in front
for esky small tent exetra extra
Not pretty but works
