having broken a GU2 auto locking hub, and considering they have been in the locked position for the last 40,000 kms
i just bought a pair of manual AVM hubs from ARB
cost?
$171 the pair, nissan want over $1200 for a pair
i know they are supposedly weaker than the factory ones but i can buy 7 sets and still be infront

Are the auto locking hubs on a GU the same as a 94 GQ as a mate just bought one and says hes getting grinding noises from them I told him to fit manual hubs from Coventrys about $200 a pair

As far as i know, there is a minor difference in GQ and GU hubs, my old man's auto locking hubs on his GU were locking and unlocking on and off road, we removed one of my GQ and found there some differences, dont quote me on it, but thats what we found, he went to ARB and bought manual locking hubs, they work fine.

A GU owner that I know had problems with hubs locking on highway and destroying them.
From my recall of a conversation with him, problem was gear oil had been incorrectly used in the tranfer case and affected the operation of the viscous coupling.

Genuine is the go, and if you are looking at second hand from '88 onwards they are the same - tho I have heard that GU is stronger?
