Prado?

Post by Begbie »

What are 1998 prados like as a 4x4? I am beginner 4x4 and looking at Surfs, hilux, 4runner and notices a cheapo Prado for sale down my way - 98 RV6/5sp/white 179kms for under 17k with rwc and reg (well it seems cheap to me, happy to be corrected)

So i wondered what these are like, do they have a bad reputation for any expensive mech failings etc? Does anyone turbo charge them?

I'm pretty sure u are talking about a 3.4l V6 PETROL. Havent seen any turbo charged but there is a few supercharger kits out there for them. It really sepends on what you want to do with the 4wd, if you will be mainly touring and beachdriving its perfect. The extra row of seats in the back are handy and they are very reliable. The 3.4 V6 tends to be heavy on the fuel but anything petrol and V6 in a 4wd is so no surprises there. Not quite a trail rig but hey, if u have the cash u could make it one.
I'm sure some people may offer some more in depth responses shortly. :D

Thanks - i went and checked it out last night, its a very tidy car for 17k - and at least 6k cheaper than any other for sale in Australia right now.

The people selling it are trying to get oput of the finance they have on it, so they were happy for the payment to go direct tot he finance company.

They ahve a very expensive and meticulous service history on that car, new brakes etc all round - its like a brand new car.

Anyway, the ad had ONO, but when i got there they said it was a mis print and would take no offers. So it out of my price, just dont have more cash.

So if anyone wants a 8.5/10 98 prado RV6 manual in TIP TOP cond, with a great serviuce history, new brakes, clutch, RWC and reg til Dec Its in the trading Post Melbourne.
