What should I do. Radiator mounting woes..

Have fitted the new engine in the lux, but the supercharger pulley makes the fitting of a radiator almost impossible in the front. There is 65mm between the radiator support crossmember and the other pulleys but under 10mm where the SC is.
I have a pic but need to host it so I can show you.
So I could either get a skinny 3 core radiator to fit in but its still going to be small, tight, hard to fit thermo fan etc.
Other option is to mount one in the tray of the lux. This looks easy on paper and I have read all the topics on it on here and pirate, but the plumbing looks like it would be a real pitta.
If I was to run one in the tray could I run one in the style side under the tornau cover or do I need to have it up on the roll bar behind the drivers head. I would prefer to have it in the tray to keep it need but will it get enough air there even with twin thermo fans?
Any other ideas?
Cheers
Tonka.

had the same problem with aircon when putting a 5m into my lux. had the option of taking mine off tho. Is your car a daily driver? I almost put the radiator in front of the original mountings, that way it could run puller thermos aswell.

Its a daily driver.

You need air flow - even with thermos.. unless you create some $ and hours style of pipe work from fresh air behind cab/under pussbox to radiator, and out other side to outside the tray.. almost like air cond ducting. direct air in - thru rad- and out.. Sounds tricky.
Wouldnt it hold the heat in under the cover? You would be better off to have it out in the open for best cooling
Most that I have seen have had it behind cab, being a daily driver, it would be fairly open to pissed assholes who wanna damage shit.

I don't see that there's that much of a problem. It's closer than you might ideally like but just mount the radiator as far forward as you can in the proper position. If you can stuff around with the mounting and gain a few mm you should be right.
What I mean is... is there any reason why you can't just fabricate some mounts so that the radiator sits an inch further forward?

This shows it well. The SC pulley on the right is only 10mm from the cross member and nothing will fit in that space other than mounts. So the core of the radiator has to be at best 425mm wide. I could then fit one in there but I am worried it wont be big enough to cool it, and I aint sure If I can get a thermo fan that will fit in the small space between the radiator support pannel and the top bonnet latch clip.
If I were to get an alloy one made (as they are meant to cool better) I may get away with it. I am asking, as I aint sure..

then add thermos... which are 2inch alone, there would be no room for error.

Thermos would have to fit in front of radiator. They then will be tight as the opening of the clip is so small. Would maybe get like 2 ten inch ones if that...

In the rear is lookin like a bitch of an option..
Dumb suggestion #1.. Lots more work, but can the engine be moved back inches? EG cut and reweld engine mounts 2inch bacK?

Not a dumb question at all.
It could perhaps. But I havent had to cut or weld mounts at all, and would hate to have to do so. Have used all original mounts, gear sticks in right place, tranny cross member in correct place. Would hate to have to stuff round with all that.
The engine fits well its just the bastard SC pulley and clutch mechanism that make it tight.
My main worry is that I waste money on a custom set up for the front and then find it wont cool the engine.

dude on melb list did that with a VS V6 into a 4runner, no room for fan - 100% nightmare $14k later on conversion he wasnt finished.

Didnt realise everythin else was sweet.. that would suckass to have to move everything.
Have you spoken to any radiator places? Maybe they know some tricks...? One that does customs, like hotrods etc

Thats the next step.
Wanted to get an idea of what people have done first so I can actually have something to tell the radiator man.

Hi Mr Radiator man..
I have this
yellow hunka shit with a different engine.
Make it cool for me.. I'll pick it up in a hour or so.

Just sit it there and run it with the radiator held roughly in place with zip ties or wire. Get it revving a bit, see if it stays cool for twenty minutes or so.
If it does, you're probably okay, so you go ahead and fabricate some radiator mounts that space it sufficiently forward.

Why is the pulley so far forwards on the air pump, can you not change or modify the pulley??
Or take the pump off to save breaking things , the engine already has probably twice the power you have been used too.

The SC pulley is further forward as thats where Mr.Toyota put it. It also has a clutch mechanism on it to control when the SC turns on. I looked into removing this and having the SC running full time but it is a decided nono from the toyomod crew.
As for removing it, I wouldn't have bothered with the engine if I was not going to use what it has.

I would not use that for a reason,Mr Toyota put a gutless 4 cyl in the vehicle too but you're changing that.
What about cutting out the Xmember and welding in a piece of angle as a replacement, the rad could sit above and behind it .

looks like a pitw. since it is a daily driver i personally would not go with the rad anywhere but close to the original position. Mr plod wouldnt like a radiator anywhere but there also. You said that you might downgrade to a 3 core? there is nothing wrong with a 2l 6 with a 3core.
My setup has a 3core with two ten inch push fans which fit nicely into the space in front of the radiator. is your hilux a first or 2nd gen? apparently the 1st gens have a slighly shorter engine bay.
If you get some kind of radiator made up to be a side tank slimline which will fit in front of the original mounts and then you could run the thermos behind the rad in a position which would not interfere with the sc clutch???

mount the radiator in front of the radiator support panel ?
make new grill to suit and that should leave room to put falcon fan shroud and twin fans where radiator would normally be.
is that a possibility??

Poor bastard will miss out on a/c then!!!
And he was trying to talk the missus into coming out wheelin' with him!!

Trim out what you dont need then make a new radiaotr support panel, and run falcon thermo fans like bigred said and order a custom radiator jobbie
Should be okay i reckon??? Unless something inf ront of the radiator is in the way?
