Where in Melb should I go for a custom alloy radiator.

Any recomendations?

I have one about 10inch at home in the shed u can have.. I wont be using it.

Somefans, the blades are shaped so that they work to the same air flow rates in push or pull. Easy to wire up, just reverse the wiring

My mate who races his rangie (KURMIT) uses a BA FALCON XR6 radiator nice and light and the twin thermos keep it cool he used have a massive radiator but this is so small and light u can balance it on your finger and i think it was under $500

Try under $200 - Ferntree Gully Auto Salvage(speak to Darren) - Tonka - I'm running them in my 80 - as long as you take into consideration the elecs - Total cost installed was less than $250.00.

If you wanta custom alloy Rad - try for a custom setup.

Have you had a chat look at DAZ's machine - thats a neat setup in his machine. Uses the same thermo's I am and an 80 Radiator.

Yes the New Falcon AU radiators are the sh!t!

I got one for my buggy out of a 2002 V8 falcon it cost me $500.00

It has a great Twin fan set-up that really has some grunt, they are super light (hence the use in the buggy's), all aluminium, cross flow and are quite compact (once again hence the use in the buggy's).

When Ruff built the BUDGIE he also used one. It was a aftermarket one and i think he paid around $200.00 for it!

They keep the buggys very cool even when under very very high revs!

I would not even bother with a after market radiator!

yea thats andrew.. you should see his custom GQ rad he made for his truck.. Well youve seen his work - nothin else needs to be said

I got one of these aftermarket v8 au raditaors and twin thermos Tonka for around 200 bux up here. You wont be able to run this in the engine bay as they are too wide for the inner gaurds. Im going to attempt to mount mine in a cut out in the tray so that it stays below the level of the rear windshield. I wouldnt worry about problems with airflow behind the cab. I had a look at Tony set up (rear mount) at PUOSU and noted how closely his was mounted to the sheet steel. If he doesnt have trouble with the 8 reving its tits off while being practically stationary I think the 6 wil be fine. Also you get the extra capacity of the extra plumbing.

how do u go with water crossings and deep muddy holes when they r mounted in the front?

John mine works well when stationary because of the fans and the fact there is no possitive pressure behind the rear firewall. It wouldnt work at speeds as it would get a air pressure pocket in there and no air would flow through it at all. When we are moving around at speeds between stages i notice the temp rise and this is usually only doing 40-50klm at the most in Low Range.

I gotta say rear-mounting the radiator, while a good idea in some instances, strikes me as being more effort than is necessary to solve Tonka's problem.

Take your stock radiator, mount it a half inch further forward, see how it goes... my guess is it will be fine. If not, THEN spend the dosh on a custom aluminium one and all the expensive stuff.

Electric fans - same deal. Good in some applications but for a fourby that gets in the mud a lot an engine-driven fan has obvious advantages, so if you can stick with that you should.

Just my 2c worth.

Never thought of it that way. So how is it that people sucessfully run rear mounted sytems? Some kind of fairing system that directs air flow up to the face of the radiator?

thats cheap maybe thats second hand or maybe i just got the price wrong

who knows but i think that could be fitted price i qouted (this was from rangieautomotive in lilydale)

they are fitting these to many comp rangie's and some patrols as well

and i think their price was new from FORD.

I think you miss the fact that the stock radiator has no chance in hell of fitting due to the SC pulley that is only 10mm from the radiator support cross member.

I am going to have to run one thats not as wide. (not as in depth 3 core vs 2 core) but in width from left to right.

This means there is less overall area, which is my concern, but a custom alloy i reckon would suffice for cooling with eletric fans. It has its draw backs but i am not left with many options....

Sounds right New from Ford - mine second hand. The motors are comepletely replaceable for $50 each of they fill up.

I'd still be using standard parts just relocated Tonka - Easier all around.
Then you get reliability and ease of parts suply when something does go.
Also - add in a second thermo switch - one based at the thermostat to fire one fan - and a second on the outlet of the rad to fire the second fan when things get warmer. also serves as a failsafe. smart yet simpel.

Tonka, have you thought of putting on a bottle of makers mark, and a few snags, and inviting cheezy round for a BBQ? While hes there... just casually happen to mention the car, and see if he has any ideas...
