Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Cris and I were looking at maybe stocking Xenon Spotlights in the store but the price seems awfully high. Like $1300 - $1500 approx. retail. Are these worth it? Are they that much better than normal halogen lights?

I'd like opinions on these lights because they are not worth bringing in if people think they are too expensive.

I personally would never buy them, cost more than me car, almost.....but saying that, I was a passenger in a car fitted with "xenon Plasma dIischarge lights" (think that's there name , were supplied by Pirhana) and they were excellent.. Very close to natural daylight, good spread and good distance, also were restful on the eyes, as it not blinding ,and didnt bounce back from dust and mist as much as I thought. If I had a $30,000 truck, I may consider them, they would be great for long trips outside the city....these were one spot and one spread... christover

stick with popular brands that you see on every day cars.. such as lightforces, nitestalkers, IPF's so on. And let people know that if they wish to order an HID or an xenon type they can order them in etc.

May be easier that way.

THink from the other side of the counter, if your bloke was lookin at lights, and saw some XGTs for few hunge, or them for few GRAND... what would you say to hubby?

Dont waste your time, but have signage, that you can get them in if your a rich fuck with lots of cabbage.

go the light force ones, only something like $1150 rrp and they are the best, although they are plastic not metal housed like the hella's.
xenon,gas discharge,hid ..... All means the same thing

Get a set of LF HID's and fit them up to your own car, when customers ask if they are any good, say stick around till dark and i'll show ya!!! In the meantime, chew the fat, feed em a beer, sell em a lift kit or whatever, then show them the lights. LF HID's make XGT's look like candles.
Once you have experienced them you wont go back, big dollars yes, but if you do any amount of night driving, especially long distance, they are a life saver and worth every cent. I pitched em to the wife on the idea that it will save us dollars in panel work, see the roos earlier and avoid them, plus if the vehicle is a diesel where alt upgrades are expensive the HID's dont look so bad for price and the performance is in another league to halogen.

just IMHO.

another thing I remembered is they are very low wattage, so therefore no need to upgrade wiring looms or alternators etc etc.. christover

their is another option instead of getting driving lights that are HID why not get some HID inserts for your head lights they are much cheap i was getting some qoutes for my patrol and they were around $650 fitted. And the best thing about HID head lights is that you wont have to worry about getting water in their cause if you do they work in water neway.

just a though u could consider.

their is another option instead of getting driving lights that are HID why not get some HID inserts for your head lights they are much cheap i was getting some qoutes for my patrol and they were around $650 fitted. And the best thing about HID head lights is that you wont have to worry about getting water in their cause if you do they work in water neway.

I dont think some of those HID inserts for H4 type globes are street legal. P retty sure I read when I was looking at them that they say not for street use. But that was a couple of months ago.

checked with vic road perfectly legal however colour range of over 10,000k is gray area.

The way HID lights work are as follows
k = kelvin temp (which is the type of colour)
6000-7500k = yellow ish
8000-9000k = white look
9000-1000k = blue (getting to like purple)
10000-12000k = purple looking

I run Hella Ralle FF1000 HID's and there ace at around the $800 each (good value) mark ive got 2 spot and 2 spread. I found that the spot are not much use in the bush when 4Bing but work great on the road when the full potential of the lights are realized. Im in the process of converting my spot beams to spread beams as the light spread from the spread beams is great .

Thanks guys, this is awesome info. We'll look into Lightforce and Hella because they seem to be a lot cheaper than the Bosch, even though the Bosch are an excellent brand.

Cris and I are going to see if T-Max will sponsor us with some lights so at least we're running them on our cars.

The blurb for the Bosch beams is that you can see for 1km in front of you. I would love to see if that is true.

The Xenon Navigator Pencil will actually reach over 1600 metres with a .50 rating. They will put out 2.5 the times the light and use a 3rd of the power consumption of Holagen system's. But you pay for what you get and at $1400 they are not cheap. They are ideal for commercial, trucks a, long distant driving and tuff offroad trucks.

Here you will find its baby brother, the compass zenon or compass 2000 which retail's for around $1200.

Then there is the standard Compass Halogen which retails for around $129. These two look the same though but there is a big difference in performance.

To get the full advantage of HID tech the reflector and the lense is i vital part of a HID lighting system . By simply retrofitting a HID globe system into an existing light will not give the full performance of a purpose built HID light assembly as it was put previously you get what you pay for.
