Alternator upgrade for a 12V SD33

Anyone upgraded their alternator, mines struggling, think its only 35A. I've had a look at http://www.aea.com.au but can't really see one which matches up directly to the current mounting brackets.

Anyone done this already? Idea of costs? I'm guessing an alternator with a vacuum pump attached won't be cheap. Is there an option to run a external electric vacuum pump?costs?

cheers

rosey alts are delta already, besides it would involve pulling it apart completly and modifing the internal wiring layout. i would leave yours on and get another as well. should be room if you mount it high. i have 3 spares - see which one fits best dude. none have a vac.

otherwise find another deisel one.

there's no cheap way out. :bad-words:

how about a bunnings $100 generator, i could see you doing this  . plum it up to your exaust. good for camping too. ;)

cheers bru

I read somewhere that the older hitachi alternators where star config? that was on that binder bulliten diesel talk page. Thats in the Scout trucks which also run the SD33

to replace the desiel alt u are looking at big dosh.
probably near $1000 because of the vac pump on the back.

as bru said, u would be more better off to make a new bracket to fit either where the p/w or a/c depending which ones u have.... or on the drivers side on the side of the head ( where the loop is )
and just mount the new electric 85 amper on there.... std holden....

My sd33 has a 55 amp, haven't long had it rebuilt, but if i was after more power i'd probably go for a second alt - eg bosch 120 amp cheap and easy to buy/change brush reg assy? Thats what i'm running on the ute, works ok.
