Wouldnt be suprised if it is allowed based on the fact that most ADR's wont cover it.... I think the only ones that would be relevant to a commercial vehicle of that age would be speedo, lighting and seatbelts.

Speak to someone who knows the engineering rules, as many of the ADRs do not apply untila certain vehicle age.

as far as i know its illegal period. however there is a loophole whereby pre 1973 vehicles have no adr's therfore no necessary compliance to them. thats why the hr holden went from sharp taillights to radiused ones when the design rules started in 73

cheers

clearly states in DOT guidelines for modifications that extra heights gained by SOA wil not be approved.

ADR's are not retrospective, and not everything was initially covered when ADR's were introduced in 1973. Hence we don'ty need catalytic converters on old pre 1985 vehicles for instance.

What you need to know is exactly when the design rule which relates to design and certification of leaf spring suspension was introduced, and was your vehicle manufactured before.

If so there is no grounds to reject such a modification, sicne what you are doing is legal by the standard the vehicle has to be measured against. For instance it's perfectly legal to have a side exit straight through exhaust on a old Diesel SWB Landcruiser ute, but isn't legal on a honda civic.

geez....I sure am glad we don't have to deal with all this in the states. I hope it stays that way but won't be suprised at all if regs here get much stiffer in the near future....

It's legal if the diffs you put under the car came factory SOA. IF you put in lux diffs w/all the longfields and tough axle upgrades and sh!t it could be done I guess :?

Other states the same. Thats why there are enineers to check your vehicle and safety rules etc.

but bazzle we cant get it approved here at all. maybe hilux diffs, but definatly not with std ones.

qld is the harshest. hence the reason i can justify 2 cars at rego ~700 and ~800. still cheaper than defects.

cheers bru

ps did the panhard fit

I spoke to an engineer about a SOA for my 1968 landie using 110 axles. I told him that if I fitted 110 axles I would have to do a SOA so the springs would clear the rear mounted track rod. He said that the mod rules did apply to my 1968 Landie, but that because the regs specifically state lifting a vehicle by SOA is illegal, it would only be permissible if the ride height stayed the same - but even then would be a gray area and he would have to get written confirmation from transport before he would approve it for me.
