Body lift done and 33" BFG Muds on!

Well after just talking about it for a couple of years I have finally done the body lift.
Settled on a 40mm lift as this will be more than enough to fit 33s (or 285/75/16s). Will be getting either BFG Muds or Goodyear MTRs.
Body lift went fairly smoothly with only a couple of minor hiccups. Will post up some pics and a bit of a write-up when I get back home to my computer as I am up in Perth at the moment.
Cant wait to get the tyres!

Oh yeah... Obviously the rear bumper needs some attention. I'm going to get a custom one done soon.

For me the best thing is the extra clearance under the diffs and no more tyre rubbing on the front guards!

That looks great Noel!! gives me something to aspire to with the Rodeo..... i'm doing a 50mm body lift very soon... and a 50mm suspension lift.....
the 33's will have to wait until next year when i can afford new ratios for the diffs
The guys on planetisuzoo will love that!!

Thanks Roe! It all went pretty smoothly. Pretty much the only things that I had to worry about were:
-Brackets (bullbar, bumper and one crossmember to body bracket)
-Modifying the Radiator shroud and fitting a longer top hose
-and a couple of hoses in the engine bay.
Steering column, brake lines, gear/t-case shifters and fuel tank filler were all fine with no modifications. Bare in mind that mine is a 40mm lift and that little bit extra may make a difference.
And yes, I am sure there will be some positive feedback on the Planet.

Looks way cool, and tall!!!! How is stability after the lift.??
Looking to do a simular body lift to my jack, 33" Simexs don't quite fit yet....

Well, I must admit that stability is not the best after the lift but I am intending to get the Rancho RS9000s for the front plus probably the in-cab control kit. Also I've kind of misplaced my Articulator's locking pin which doesnt help at all...

PS: Still getting some slight rubbing on the inner guards but hopefully a good hammering should sort it out!

Truck looks great Noel, I have to start all over again with the Safari, its only on 32's and gets hung up where the Bighorn didnt (but it still goes more places
)

good on ya noel! the car looks heaps better with the lift. i kept putting it off but one day just decided to do it and was pleasently suprised how easy it was. the hardest part was finding the longer bolts to fit the captive nuts on the rear end. my radiator shroud fell off when the lift was done and as yet havent had any cooling problems. the top radiator hose was replaced with a hz75 cruiser hose for a perfect fit. the rear bumper was the tricky part. ended up welding angle brackets above the original mounts then thru bolting the bumper to that. mine was a 50mm lift and no problems with brake lines or steering. just got to give it a go!!

I had the same problem with trying to locate the longer bolts (which were metric 150mm length 1.25mm iso fine for the record). For a while I thought I was going to have to order them in but eventually found them. For those in Perth go to the Metric Men in Osborne Park first.
Yours must look pretty awesome too. Read that you have 33" claws. Any pics?

HI guys, love the picks of the jack. I dont have a digi camera or i'd post some of mine. I've got a lwb98update jack, v6 manual standard track and rims. Have just fitted a efs kit all round giving 40mm front and rear, and fitted some 265/75/16 MTR's giving another 40mm as well. I now have 280mm clearance under the achilles heel (trans case) . looks magic, no rubbing although there is only about half an inch clearance to the front sway bar at full lock. The MTR's have transformed it greatly in the mud, stability is also good with the lifted suspension and bigger rubber.
Only bad things - the MTR's being such a heavy case tyre suck out a fair bit of power (mines modded anyhow so it is still as quick as a standard jack) and i'm not game to wind it off the dial like before.
And i've got airbags in mine so no body lift for me :-((((
First time here, also on explore oz and the aust 4wd jackaroo site.

Hi Brad and welcome to the forum!
I like the MTRs and was very close to getting a set but 33x12.5" would have been too wide for my guards and flares and I didnt want to fork out for a new set of 16" rims to fit the 285/75/16s. Sounds like your Jack would do pretty well offroad. I know mine was transformed back when I first got my 32x11.5" BFG Muddies. Be keen to see a pic when you are able...
You meantion that your Jack's been modded. Do you mean with a chip or something? Dont really know much about the airbags but how will they restrict the option of a bodylift?

cheers Noel, yeah shes pretty capable off road now, but it was pretty amazing where they go with fairly standard setup, surprised a lot of people i know. The fitting of bodylift blocks changes the physics of how the body mounts to the chassis (of course) and this throws out all the standard calculations for deployment of the airbags if you have a decent stack. I'm not the greatest fan of airbags but since i've got em id like them to work if needed !!
my 'mods' are mainly to the induction and exhaust , removing all the standard restrictors and pipes to the airbox, using twin 3 inch feeds to the airbox, uni-filter high flow element, iridium plugs, egr that 'stopped' working , removing the restrictor cones in the exhaust y pipe. etc. Goes like a cut cat now, although the heavy mtr's have taken the sting out of it, with the 245/70/16 bridgestone 693's i had it would just light em up without trying , good drifter it was !! . Real touchy in the wet
Used to get 12/100 economy or better, now with the lift and tyres it is getting 13-14/100 .
Pity adam and will are leaving the brekky show in a few weeks, used to put a smile on me every day...

sorry champ, forgot to mention that strongarm do a steel replacement rear bumper with twin swing out wheel/jerry holders for jackaroos, they look fairly well made, saw em at the melb 4x4 show. They are made in Melb, come in black powdercoat which would match your bar, might be a bit heavy though, steal some of that lift you've got...

Thanks for the tip on the rear bar Brad but I will be looking for something low profile and without the swingarms. Jerry holder would be handy though... If anyone has a copy of 4wd Monthly issue 41 June 2002 look at the "Alpine Jack" article and you will see the sort of thing that I am after.

back in the country again, and back to work...anyway was looking for something to do the other day and decided to lift the fuel tank up the 2 inches i gained from the body lift. was not much of a drama, just ran the fuel lines/breathers over the tubular cross member in front of the tank, and then had to bleed the fuel system. only issue now is the tow bar but decided not to mess with that. have got a brochure from usa4x4 for teralows, if you are still interested. got to go and weld up my sliders now,

Thanks for the idea on the fuel tank. Something that I will definately have to do at sometime but my first issue with my fuel tank is to straighten out the bash plate as its well and truly been bashed flush up agaist the tank over the years which obviously creates an issue.
Actually rather than lifting the existing tank I think that I would rather just get a custom tank made up to fill the extra space I have gained since the lift. I only have a 62L tank and I barely seem to get over 400ks to the tank...
Yep, still interested in looking at the Teralow option.

HI Noel, yeah i remember that jack, nice piece of work, but i cant find the backissue anywhere, Yeah go the increased tank size.
Toby, i too have looked at the option of the trans case gears, but i dont think i can justify the coin at the moment.. What style of sliders are you thinking of, i am going to make a set of slider steps in the future - have to set up my new garage first, and i am thinking of using some thick wall round tube with some walkway mesh inserted as a tread / boot scraper set up , not as wide as the ally jobs they sell. Have seen a guy using docking rubber along the sills mounted to some box tube, that looked ok as well.
