What to put in?
I have read the 3.8s are a fairly simple conversion but chew a lot of fuel.
I have also heard that the holden 308 efi fits in as well and is better on fuel that the 3.8 V6.
Can I please have some feedback from someone who has done either conversion in either a Surf, 4runner or hilux and let me know approximate costs, problems etc.
Thanks
Jason

i've done the 3.8L coversion, mine's a series 1 vn shit motor with auto
atm i'm getting nearly 400kms out of a 60L hilux tank running around town.
I'd like to see a 308 get that economy.
The 3.8 conversion is simple, come for a look if u want.
BTW the filter went last night.
Cheers Chris

I'd go the 5ltr as it's only about 4kg's heavier than the std 2LTE
ask HG as he is doing that conversion hopfully by the end of the year and doing it as a carby not efi and I reckon that a nice sounding V8 would be awesome in a Surf, Imagine how many people's heads will turn.
I mean I have a 3" system on my 3ltr and that turns heads so imagine a V8

$10k drive in drive out That's ridiculos. You don't recon you upgrade to a hilux factory v6 for that money. Quoted on V6 engine g/box complete $1100-$1500 adapter upto $1500.
$7000 labour
seems a little steep this dude doesn't want to do the job.

Tell me about it but that appears to be the going rate at the 5 places I have contacted for it.
I can get hold of a series 2 3.8 with T700, computer and complete loom for $1200
I know the marks adaptors will not be cheap but I have no idea what I am doing so will need it to be done for me.
Unless someone here wants to earn some cashola

Youve obviously never done an engine conversion before. All the little things will add up and get you!

Doing th V6 now and I second this. If you think that the motor box and adapter are the only expenses your way off track lol. MTX those are the prices I was quoted too. I heard of one place out at redlands that did it for like 6-7k but using dellows conversion gear. Even Heard of a guy doing mates rates ones for 5k but I couldnt see that happening.
Seriously Roc70y is the guy to talk to. I havent seen anyone do it cheaper. If he sez you can go round and have a look I'd do it. And take some piss with ya that way you can get all the insider tricks out of him.
Look backa couple of pages in the toyota section. theres been lots of talk about v6 conversions lately and I included in one the price break down of the gear I got from marks just to show how things can add up. PM me if you've got any q's
Good Luck

Yeah Chris (roc70y) is the guy to talk to his conversion and set up is sweet!
Im also in the process of this at the moment trying to gather up all the 'little things' at the moment so that I dont get so caught out with the sorting out process.
Cheers
