May have found someone to swap c&p with. 3.0 GQ :D

Anyone got a step by step of whats involved in the job?
What seals etc are required to do the swap? hes happy too as its revving its norks off at 100ks. would rather do the C&P than centers, as I like my LSD, and dont know what condition his is in..

just came in from finishing my centre swap.. but i changed complete centres. so i cant get into the details of removing gears, but the rest is pretty simple..
1] disconnect tailshaft from diff
2] place vehicle on stands with tyres removed. 2 stands under the rear diff tubes will be enough. drain diff oil about now too..
3] remove the bolt holding brake caliper and remove brake pads
4] undo the nuts on the inside of the rear backing plate that hold the diff hub assembly to the axle, also remove the 2 bolts that hold the brake assembly to the same backing plate.
5]axle will slide out from centre, being careful to not damage seals as they may be reused if not damaged or still in good nick.. but worth changing as they are not expensive..
6] repeat steps 4 and 5 on the other side of diff.
7] remove all the nuts and washers from the diff centre housing and split the centre housing from the diff housing.
8] the complete centre should slide out with a bit of levering of the housing to pass it over the bolts on the diff housing. be carefull because the centre is bloody heavy and awkward to carry out..

the rest is for somone else.. put every thing back oppisite way and all will be sweet..

gasket glue will make a seal between diff and housing, and new seals can be put in on he axles if u think u need them..

bearings and seals in the actual hubs can be inspected while axles out..usually the will be good unless u removed the axle for the reason of changing bearings..

axles will locate quite easliy back into centre..and everything else is pretty straight forward.. if i can do it im sure u all can...cheers guys

kewl on the instructions.

Front much different to the rear to do? Ive had the front down to a shell with the center the only thing left in it before, serviced CVs and seal on the hub.

would you have the part #'s of the seals and shit you used? should be on the reciept, or the bags..

im actually taking the 2 vehicles to a front end specialist to do my front swap.. i have olny done the rears..

the centre housing will come out the same, but u will have to remove the front axles first, i think u wil have to remove the swivel hub pins to pull axles out.. these are those plates above and below each end of the front diff just inside hub assembly. they have 4 bolts on them

as for part number.. i just went to bearing industries in faifield and asked for inner axle seals as they were all i expected to change as my bearings etc were all in good nick. the guy just gave me the seals i needed and i didnt get reciepts as i payed cash. no bags or box sorry mate.. but somone here will no im sure..

The rear from what I read is harder than the front..

yea ripped the front b4, its piss easy. you could do that yourself in a few hours too..

to pull the axles out just keep undoing all the things from the end of the axle until all you have left is the stub axle poking out. Then give it a pull and it should come out. As you probably know you don't need to completely remove them to change the centre just pull them back a bit.
This probably sounds confusing but once you start pulling it apart it is easy.

Bruce ,,, Better to swap complete and dont disturb crown wheel and pinion. LSDs dont normally give any trouble.

Bazzle

Thats better,,, tight place
