Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Here is a little write up on how i did the steering on my SOA MK.

Will it clear? Probably... The steering-arm is made of 50 mm x 20 mm steel.


This is the idea, to weld it to the steeringbearing-plate (or whatever you guys call it!):

Welding time. The welding took long time because i didn't want to heat the bearing. Weld, wait, weld, wait, weld, wait and so on...




Yeah, it fits!!


Time to make some braces for making the construction bulletproof. I dont wanna loose the steering on a highway!



New drag-link mounted! The pipe used is 25 mm outer and 14 mm inner so i think it wont break i think.

After testing on the road... What a difference!! And the steering damper is not mounted yet, so it will be even better!

Total cost:

US $12 for the pipe.

It took me about 6 hours.

looks bloody good mate. Your lucky your spring pack doesn't hit your steering rod. All steering arms I have seen made have a step up or rise in them. Yours appears to have plenty of room. Are you confident in the strength of the steering rod? I hope the threaded ends hold!
It looks funny seeing it all on a left hand drive vehicle. Great to see.

aren't u worried about the fact u only have 2 out of 4 bolts holding the new link in place? also do u have faith in those welds

i myself would have been happier seeing 4 bolts mounting the bearing and new steer bracket in place, along with the welds, there are alot of forces there,

I know some of the welds doesnt look to good when looking at the pics. The final result is better. Also, the welding around the bearingplate is almost 200 mm long so i think it will be okay. The brace also help keeping the things on the rigth place.

With my design it doesnt matter if two or four bolts is going through the steering arm. The steering arm is drilled ritgh throug, 16 mm holes. The bolts are stock size, i have only change them to a better quality insex bolts.
