Outer Limits 4x4 Board

ok well anyone thats followed my build knows tha ti took the lpg setup out cause it needed about 600bux spent on it well thats what i was quoted

ive colected enough parts to reinstall it myself and just get it all checked for leaks by a mate that works at gas and fuel

now for the question
my old tank was dodgy mounted bigtime it bounced about under the 40 and well it terrified me so ive just brought a mount out of a nissan ute with the intention os just bolting it through the floor underneath but this means cutting out a cross brace on the floor id rather not and am told this causes the floor to crack

now im thinking ive gotta cut the mount down slightly anyway would it be a good setup to cut it down so that it fits perfectly inbetween the chassi rains and bolt it through the chassi on both sides welding in crush tubes n shit

i really like this idea cause it seems nice and solid and if i mount it right at the top of the chassi it will still be high enough not to cause me problems with departure angle my towball will hit the ground first anyway

my other idea was to weld a tube ontop of the chassi and bolt it through them but i dunno it seems kinda dodgy but would mean im not drilling through the chassi

ideas please ??

i've been told drilling through the chassis is better than welding to the chassis.... apart from that, got nothing else to add to your post

yep well ive been out playing and have decided to mount it to the chassi theres 6 holes in the back through it so ive just made 2 out larger on each side to bolt the frame up to its gonna be nice and high higher than the old mount i think so im happy pity its so hot not much motivation to get it done working on hot concrete grrr

Case I reckon yer much better off bolting to chassis period.....or go diesel

well ive made up brackets to bolt it to the chassi but im not happy with it its too low for my driving style offroad and i dont think having a lpg tank draging along the ground woul be very safe

so its back to the drawing board tomorrow its about 3" below the body so its just too low for me think im gonna have to do some interesting fab work off the chassi i really dont wanna bolt it to the floor but it would make it a hell lot easier till ive gotta replace it down the track

put a bit of curved steel as a bash plate following the contours of the tank, and remember, they are tough those lpg tanks... had my entire rear of the 40 suspended off it offroad once, little rock i didn't see dropping into some ruts.

any chance i could get a photo of how low yours sits maby im paranoid

i just threw out the old bashed plate but ill make a new one up to suit it
i think ill just play with the mounts a bit tomorrow having the 6 bolt holes there if i raise the front up a inch it should make me happier as foir the tank its 4cm wider than the old one so ive gotta make sure that the springs arnt gonna tap it when the suspension compresses theres only about 5-10mm of space between the tank and the springs was a tight squeze making it fit

arr the pleasures of custom work trial and error works for me

no pics sorry, dig cam off line at the moment. hangs down past shackle height, just lower than tow ball... combined with more than flat (ie axle mount is higher than either spring end) it drags it over most things...

cheers for that i think ill bolt mine up and see how it goes offroad shortly my towball has been lowered 2" to tow a standard trailer easy sio its really low and usually ends up digging into the ground

opwell whats the worst that can happen the tank explodes or ends up stuck on a rock with me still atempting to drive away lol might just have to copy daz and raise the rear floor lol btw im joking thats way too much work for me to do

well, i won't say it won't punture, but one trip saw most of the 40;s weight rested on a rock with a point about the size of a 50 cent piece, and it left a few scratches.

remember your lpg tank is designed to take a fair whack of pressure.
