Have done an engine swap- current hilux motor (3.0TD) into 84 hilux. Lux has all the original AC stuff so just want to hook up to the new factory compressor. All the hoses are disconected and all the inlet/outlet ports are open. An AC guy has told me it could cost $500-600 because on top of modifying all the hoses, regassing and a few new parts they have to thoroughly flush the whole system in case there is dirt or moisture inside. Does this sound reasonable? I dont mind spending the money if it is necessary but they just seemed to make a big deal of how it could be very expensive.

this is true if the pipes are left open dirt and moisture
can get in which is bad. as for the price i,m not entirely
sure could well be $500 or so if pipes have to be
custom made to fit properly.

mate, moisture, and dirt in the system could cost you heaps, if you have dirt in the system, you could say good bye to pump seals, if there is moisture in the system, the tx valve will block up,

when it comes to non-condensables, it doesnt take much to dramatically decrease the performance/stop working all together,

i would shop around, and see what sort of prices you can get, where are you located.

Receiver driers can vary drastically in price too (you'll need a new one fitted.) The one for my Feroza was nearly $100 RRP!

$500 is a bit exxy. If the comp is ok and has been sealed it will only need an oil top up. If it has contamination in it it will need a flush out and re-oil. The comp. should be R-134a already. The rest of the system will need a flush out before conecting to the comp. and if the TX valve flushes OK the system will need a new RD and a vac and regas. Worst case even if it needs a TX and comp. flush it should be under $500....

I am near North Sydney. All sounds much like what the guy was saying worst case scenario so I guess Ill let him look over it all and get it done right. I dont expect it to be supercheap but just wanted to get an idea of whats involved. Thanks for the feedback
