285/75/16s on a 2in susp. lifted 40 series - will they fit?

Anyone know if I can just throw these straight on without any major mods? I'm currently running 235/75/16 Cooper AT's at the moment and i'm seriously considering 285/75/16 Cooper STT's depending on what the trade in I can get on my AT's from Fourby's.
Any info would be appreciated.

why would split rims be an issue?

aren't 285's to wide for splits?

Yeah I was thinking splits would be a bit narrow which are generally 16x5.5. I had splits with 235/85/16 tyres and they were pushing the limit, now have same tyres fitted to 16x7 roh II white steel rims. I was thinking I would like to run a taller tyre but no more width as my steering is heavy enough as it is.
On a recent trip one of Daz's mates I am fairly sure was running some Cooper 285/75/16 on his 40 but they were on 16x8 rims.

hmm.. Thats a bit of a bummer..
I have some 31-11.5R15's on steel rims in the garage at the moment and I could possibly use those I guess.. I noticed on the coopers website that they do 33-12.5'R15 that could maybe fit that rim.. not sure?
I'm not too keen of putting the extra stress of the phats on the power steering and last time I had those 31"s on it made freeway driving a bit of a challange..
I would prefer to keep using my 16 split rims as they are a bit easier to find/repair/replace in remote areas...
How about 255/85/R16's? (33" OD) would they have the same issue as th 285's? Just looking at alternatives for bigger rubber..
I'm goin over to Fourby's on saturday morning to see what they can do with the pro-rata trade-in and the i'll mention the rim situation.. that will probably be more of a limiting factor rather than the max size for my 2in lift... but still any info you guys can share would still be appreciated..

255/85/R16's will fit your standard split rims no worries. I run wide tyres with no power steering and its not much bother at all.

Well.. after a bit of research and a heap of reading i have made a decision..

*squirt!*
That is to get 33x10.5xR15 Simex Jungle Trekker 2's.. now I'm pretty sure that these should fit with a 2in lift without any major issues..
does anyone else know for sure and can confirm this?
This works out well as I'll have 2 sets of tyres and is probably the best idea (legal - 235/16's and not-legal - 33x10.5 radials treads...)
Will this bite me in the a$$ once i get them on or will it be smooth sailing?

sure, they'll fit under and look sweet when its parked, but any articulation, and the tyres are gonna ride straight up into the wheel tub. i was considering 33's for my 4 runner with 3" body lift, but talking to the guy at the tyre place, who has done a lot of work on 4WD's and owned them, said that I'd have all sorts of troubles with them, not to mention steering, braking etc. so i'm just going 31 muds and call it a day at that!

buy the tyres if thats what you want. Do not get put off by people telling you about them rubbing. They will rub on full articulation and possibly even on full lock. Does it matter? Nope!! Cutting the rear guards is real easy. If your concerned about rubbing then don't venture past the maccas carpark!

I thinkn that the back arches will be your nemisis.
4" grinder and leave it about 1/2" longer than you want and fold it 180 degree's to eliminate sharp edges.
there a beer tip for you.....

also bend the front guard lip up as the lugs like to grab it on full lock n twist

Hey they look the biz, looks like you will have to get intimate with your grinder. got any pics with the soft doors on
Cheers Dazz
Mine are cut up to the top of the inner wheel arch with a jigsaw like what Tojo said

Use a jigsaw. Carefully measure out the clearances for your rear guards. Use something round to do the corners like the end of a silicone tube or something. Rounded edges look better than straight angled ones. I cut mine as close to the front as possible and as close to the floorline as possible and a few inches further back. Measure carefully and mark out both sides. I didn't leave any spare to bend over as a lip but its probably a good idea. I haven't done my front guards yet but probably should soon as they are pretty mangled!! The tyres hit the front lip. Your car's looking pretty good!
