Are the new ones as strong as the old ones. What size motors do the new ones come out with.

Not much has changed i think. Just need to check the gears. As the top gears are only oil'd if the thing is used everynow and then. So I guess they could be pitted or rusted. Dont know how much of a problems this is though or how much to fix. The new motor should bolt up though.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
mine is very very old and has a 2hp motor but still works ok with no mods.
from what i hear the early ones had metal brush holders and the new ones had plastic ones which can distort with heat.
the 6 hp motor fits straight on but i'm not sure if you have to upgrade solenoids to suit as i suppose the bigger motor will draw a lot more amps.

The 6 HP motor gets the power increase from more RPM i have heard the Warn dont recomend this motor for the Hi-mount because of the increased speed and if you flick the control the other direction to stop the drum it can break the gears. Under load this motor is no faster as the motor torque is determined by the volts and amps. If you compare the specs of the early 2.5hp and the 4.6hp the capacity of the winch remains the same only the unloaded line speed increases which is still a good thing .
