Bundy Questions

Are they are a weak truck?
How easy are they to lift to clear 35” rubber?
How much would it cost to lift it?
The Bundy in question is a 85 model, with the 22R motor.
And anything else i should know about them......

80 series front springs all round = 4 inch lift! 35s will go then! mine is standard height with 33s and they fit easily!
I Didnt want to go high so went wide with a 13.5inch tyre!

just cut your guts to fit them under, or do 2 inch body lift, heaps more stable when left standard height, i got king springs under my, the 50mm lifted ones but they are more like 20mm, over all there a good lil car, but 35s kill them when driven hard!!!

the 22R will struggle badly to turn 35's especially with the stock gears. petrol bunderas have 4.3 or 4.56 diff gears. you can swap in 4.875 gears from a Diesel but the motor will still struggle. 35's will rub in the rear on full articulation. will probably also rub on the front with just the spring lift. Unless you are going to go hell hardcore a bundy only needs 32 - 33" tyres to go most places. less suspension and tyres and more spent on lockers is the go.

Yeah I agree with that Brian about the hardcore part! Once mine is sorted I will look @ locking mine in some fashion (Air or CIG!)

Though that might be the case with the 22R motor. But the 35's are a must for where we usally go. i think i will chase the Middys up, because they seem like a better 4wd all round.......

same as for bundys, stay away from the petrol middys. the 3F is possibly the worst motor ever put into a landcruiser, including the 22R. don't write the bundy off completely - it is far easier and cheaper to fit 35's on a bundy than on a middy, you can do it for the price of 4 80 series stocker coils on a bundy but on the middy you will have to go SPOA or 2" suspension lift + 2" body lift.
for the price of a diesel middy you could probably do a supra M series conversion on a klapped out bundy and have change for a locker.
something to think about anyway

hmmm intersting. this Bundy that the old man is looking at is $4300 with a lsd (are they any good) and a 2" spring lift but it has that 22r motor.
How much is it to put a commie motor (V6) motor in them?

the LSD is pretty useless, better than an open diff but not much. can shim them up to get a bit more grip out of them but they go south pretty quick.
commo motor swap can vary in price from as cheap as say 2k if you get a second hand bellhousing and come across a cheap motor and can do all the wiring and welding yourself, up to say 5k for a shop to do the whole thing would be a fair price.
a decent turbo diesel middy will set you back probably more than 8 - 10k.

Yeah im going the commo V6 option. Been looking to pick up a cheap conversion kit s/hand but nothing has turned up so will probably get newies (time is running out, less then a month to go!)
Will also get a wrecked commo for the conversion to get everything required and maybe salvage some parts to sell!(always some clown around here with a blown diff from skids)
All up my truck will still only owe max $8500, which i feel is pretty reasonable considering its condition and with all the luxury stuff like air and steer!
