Can anybody help. My gearbox has starting whining in every gear apart from 4th. Is there any easy fix or should I just throw an imported second hand one in. I've seen the advert for brand new one for about $1500 in the 4x4 trader but was after a bit of a cheaper option.

Yeah , had the same problem back when I had a SWB 85 NB sports model. THe bearings just flog out and need replacing. Mine cost me $1250.00 there abouts to repair and that is when I took it out for them too!
My 5th gear assembly was totally rooted too but. (as in the selector fork was damaged big-time), Still went into th fine but?
Anyway, I say just get it serviced with new bearings and keep it the original! Way too much hassle with changing the other stuff and you might have the same problem 12 months down the track!
Also, extend the breather and put a fitting on it so that you can run a hose up into the engine bay. This will help the service life.....
Cheers

My old ND wagon was the same. all gears were extremely noisy except 4th. forked out about 1500 from memory including new clutch.

What year is this car? I saw 1987 Pajero on ebay today for $1200, snorkel, 31.5in tyres, bullbar etc etc etc
Might be worth scanning around for a whole, car wreck out all the bit you dont use, or even scrap metal and ou will ahve a free gearbox ?

Thanks for your replies. I Rang Kapco today that sell brand new gearboxes for about $1560. I think I will go for that option but it is just a matter of finding the dollars.
