Headlight fuse in cruiser keeps blowing

Well like it says up their, The headlight fuse in my 75 FJ40 blows with or with out the lights being turned on. Does it as soon as you put it in. Anyone had this before? And how did you fix it? Where do I start looking? It’s got me totally stuffed.

unplug connector from headlamps and try again. Check for wiring loom rubbing against metal somewhere. You need to start from he healamp connectors and work back..

did you get this sorted? as woop said, disconnect the lights at the plugs and stick a new fuse in..

if it still blows you probably have a short to the chassis somewhere in the headlight loom..

good places to check are through the firewall, and anywhere where there is movement of the cable..

alternatively see if there are any other circuits connected to the back of the headlight fuse.. sometimes people do some strange wiring "enhancements".. and source power from anywhere they can get it..

I haven't had a chaince to look at it yet as it's in at the mech's getting some other work done at the moment. but at least now I have some Idea where to start

Instead of blowing 3241235 fuses. Why don't you put a test lamp in the fuse holder instead. As it will have +ve on the battery side of the fuse and obviously has -ve on the other side it will glow.

When you have done this start unplugging things from the headlight loom and see what makes it go out. As said before also check for rubbing cables.

my 40 is blowing heaps of headlight fuses too, i think i found the problem, the headlight switch is majorly corroded... and hte PO "rewired" it, so that a slight movement is enough to see positive and something else hit b4 it goes into the switch.
