Don't know about your Hilux but in my Rodeo you can put the amp and sub box behind the rear seat. In fact it is about the only place you can put them.

I was going to use one 10in but haven't had time to do anything about it yet. Could go a 12in if I got creative with the box.

Have a stacker under the seat but I remove it when out playing so it doesn't get fcuked up.

You should easily be able to fit 2 10 inch subs behind the back seat and get the amp in there aswell. Just screw a bit of 16mm MDF in there, mount the sub in that and you should be laughing. Try and get you amp up as high as possible incase you swamp your car, and go for a headunit, not a stacker - less chance of things skipping/being damage offroad.

Subs? id go for a JL, Pioneer or one from Jaycar, all are very good and not too expensive.

i got a 1993 DC lux and there is no way to put a sub (let alone 2), amp etc behind the back seat and make it worth your while. do what i have done, i have my amp sitting behind the back seat (mounted to the firewall) and a 12" Coustic sub in proper box sitting on the rear bench seat. its kinda dodgy, but it doesnt move anywhere when driving around, it doesnt move even when i'm wheeling. i havent had any probs with theives etc yet, and i park in some dodgy places. It has quick release clamps on it, so if i want to carry more than 4 people in the cab i just unclip the 2 wires and pull it out with ease, and viola!

The sub and box costed me about $150 from JB HiFi. Some people may tell you ways of mounting it behind the seat, but the way i have done it is cheap and effective so thats all i care about.

Mate have you ever thought of what this would do to you or your passengers in a roll over or crash. I am saying this as you have said how it is held in or do you have it secured some how ??? Sorry for going off topic just thought this was a bit unsafe

It can be done. Get a copy of July 4wd Monthly (issue 68) with a feature of Chris Tierney's dual cab Lux. He has fitted two 10's on a wooden support that has been bolted to the rear of the cab.

If ya cant get a copy of the mag, PM me and I will scan and email the pic to ya>

I have a 12" pioneer sub sitting on my back seat, it is okky strapped to the rear of the seat so it never moves. Is a pita for passengers though cause its a big box.

yeah yeah yeah, if there's a crash people get hurt / die, circle of life, bones mend, yadda yadda yadda....

i've heard it all before. you are correect, it is a safety issue therefore i dont make anyone get into my car. i cant afford a big system with custom installs etc, and i cant fit shit behind my seats with all the gear back there (inverter, amp, epirb, first aid kit, emergency shyte etc etc). sitting on the seat it doesn't move at all, an its secured in by the seat belt.

it would have to be the same wouldnt it, as the seats would still fold down and even when they are in the upright position there should still be enough room to mount a sub to a wooden frame that has been bolted to the rear of the cab wall

I had seen a custom job done by northfield with a 10'' sub behind the rear seat. But its alot of pising around and you can only use certain types of subs because of the depth. I got 4x12'' alpines in the back on my DC. But who needs a back seat

You've probably heard it a million times already, but without a box it's prolly not worth putting the subs in- your 6x9's will produce as much bass. I saw pics of Chris Tieneys Lux too but it would be interesting to actually hear what the subs sound like.

I got 90 d/c as well and have pondered how I can get my 2 12 inch RF subs in there. They require 3 cu feet each to operate efficiently. I spoke to a couple of installers who seem to feel that it is crazy to cut the rear firewall and build box behind cab (requires engineer cert)... the only other way is remove rear seat and build box inside cab.

It seems most agree that you can put 2 quality 8 inch subs and correct box behind standard rear seat- requires good box fabrication (this would be easiest solution).

Another option is remove rear bench and mount 2 bucket seats there and build box in centre... again requires eng. cert., probably fit 2 x 10 inch subs and box or 1 x 12 inch (probabaly most work).

There is one other option.... remove the rear window and mount the subs there and build a box outside the cab. It would look so mad from inside and I wanted to do it this way but still thinking.... Because the lux is a commercial vehicle the engineer told me you can fill in the rear window as long as there is a mirror each side.

Anyhow, my 2c worth.

Josh.

Open air subs can work. You need to use the open air ones of course not box subs but they can be made to work well. The deal is though that open air subs still need a box but just not as specialised as normal. You can't just put one on your back seat with no enclosure and expect it to work. Usually a big enclosed space such as a car boot works well. We had a Pioneer rep once that had a 180sx with 2x12in subs in a custom parcel shelf. Worked great.
