My stuffed rangey motor...

Afternoon all,

Sure I posted my query this morning, but it doesn't look good, can't see it anywhere...

Have a 1976 3.5 4 speed range rover and purchased it not running...yeah yeah, first big mistake!! But it had recond transfer new clutch new tyres and suspension, was in pretty good nick...apart from the motor.

After pulling it down, the pistons are shagged, the rings are gone and it doesn't look good. :bad-words:

Had a guy call around that I know, second hand motor with 130k's $1,500.00 or recond unit for $2,300.00. Sound expensive to me, but fairly new to the rangey scene and just getting the itch you apparently get.

Don't want to flog it off, just want to see what is reasonable for a motor recond etc.

Cheers

Chris.

Hunt around a bit more, I picked up a brand new 3.9 bottom end for $3200 and just stuck my heads, manifold & front cover on it, bolted straight in and it PURRED.

10 years since I shopped there, they were good then, also try M&R Automotive at Redcliffe, they looked after most my LR/RR bits pretty well, tell them Pat sent you if you want to see how fast they can scurry into the ceiling space :-)

I went Patrol due to a loss of interest in replacing axles :-)
Got some pics on my out of date site.

Thanks mate. Also run a patrol, but thought of a rangy for throwing tools into and running general running around. Not so worried about fuel economy etc, just want to get the pig running!

Thanks for the tip mate, I'll see if I can get in contact tomorrow.

Cheers,

Chris.
