I was wondering if anyone has pics of how thier 1 pce tailgate was made and how it looks. Just welding them down the centre is a bit too rough for what I want, I am going a long way with my rebuild and I dont want a tailgate that looks rough.
And what type of hinges and catch setup do you use with the single gate?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Raymond
my email for any pics is: raymond.spackman@bigpond.com

wondering where i have a pic....

mine is a swing out one.
fibreglass.

the hinges are the original ones, they are on the passenger side.
the latch system though is a bit ordinary. its got a gate style latch, that i have temporarily(6months ago) replaced with a bolt and nut system as i rarely open it up.

I would like to hinge mine at the bottom. Mine is the 82 model and only has 1 hinge piece on the tub not 2 like the earlier models.
Thanks for your help

im sure mine has the side hinges just moved from the side to the bottom
just have to redrill the holes in the bottom & fill the side holes
better ton the bottom because you can open the tailgate down & yous like a bench
tailgate is just a metal from eith tin on outside & mdf on inside looks fine
& does the job

How about grabbing hinges and the Wire stop off a commodore or whatever ute...

Then you will have the wire rope there to stop at whatever height you want.

Mine has a drop down tailgate which is good to use as a bench/seat, but it's also a pain when your loading/gettin stuff out of the back, as it's a long stretch. When I rebuild mine it's gettin a swing out...for sure...but you can use chain as a stopper, with plastic tube over it to stop rattles...cheap at bunnings!!

Okay, mine is a soft top, so I just did a checker plate one piece unit. It has the original BJ40 hinges on the bottom and a catch system off a Holden Ute. So, it had a lever on the outside and the locking system on the inside. Crank the lever and it pulls the pins out of the Holden catches, which are mounted on the sides. I will try to get the camera off the old man tonight to take a few pics. This system works really well, but it was a bit of messing around to get it in and working right.
