Hey all,
I'm applying to school down in Melbourne and I'll be needing a good truck thats easy to work on and will haul around all my camera equipment. I'm not too familiar with overseas trucks so if you all have some suggestions that would be great.
Oh yea, I'm looking to spend around $6,000AUS.
Cheers

Get a Toyota Landcruiser 60 Series diesel wagon (HJ60 mid-80s onwards). Nice roomy and capable truck that falls into your price bracket. When are you coming to Melbourne?

I just applied this week so I'm not sure if I'll make it in time for July session. If not I have to wait till feburary! I have the option to move over 3 months earlier though so I might look into that.
My friend has a 60 series cruiser and I love the size of it. Granted that damned 2F petrol motor has given us more problems. How are the diesels?
I've been thinking about an FJ40 (BJ over there I think). Its just me and camera gear to haul around and I'm going for something that I can play with on some good trails and also get me to where ever I need.
Thanks for the replies!

you could pick up a pretty good suzuki sierra for about 5000 [what do they call them over there, sidekick, samurai ? ]
pretty capeable, easy and cheap to run and repair and pretty tough.

BJ73 are the mid wheel based version out of the 70 series cruisers.
They tend to be a little expensive in Australia but they are quite good.
Most come with a FRP hardtop that can be removed.

you could always go with an oldish hilux
usually can pick em up pretty cheap and they are easy to modify.
Just watch out for rust. If it has seen a bit of beach work could have a bit of cancer.

NAM, thanks for the pics. Those little toys look cool, I like the fact its got a removable top.
I've done the jeep thing for quite some time. I'm over it to be honest, I want something different like a landy or toy. Ruffs dual cab hilux looks pretty cool!
Now I need to check into getting a license and insurance....
Cheers,
Justin

HAHA Thanks Shorty,
I've always had a love affair with 40s and Defender 90s. How would a 40 treat me as a daily driver?
Cheers
