Thats about all you will get out of it too..

As it works out with gas, you can only use 80% of the LPG in the tank, and as LPG enters the engine it will use more volume than fuel (by about 1/3 more) so that gives you poor milage...

What you can do is run it straight gas, so you can then give the timming a bit more initial advance, wich should make it get a little more power, and run a little cooler, but you wont be able to run unleaded even premium will still ping its head off, don't even waste your time with super, only thing it is good for is lubing the valve seat...

Fit a valve saver fluid bottle if it isn't allready on your car, and run it straight gas...

Other things you can do is shave the head-deck the block, use a single plain manifold, electronic ignition, run a gas grind cam, graph the dizzy to suit cam and advance...run extractors or headers, dont go to big on the exhuast.. make sure all vacume leaks are fixed. Use later generation gas components....

What set up have you got at present...

80l is the amont of gas that i used i didnt think the tank was that big but its now taken that much twice im not too fond of straight gas if im only getting 300kays to a tank especially concidering i dont have a gas guage the one on the tank is stuffed so i drive it till i run out then switch to petrol

the timing has been advanced slightly and it dosnt seem to ping on ulp the head has been rebuilt for gas so thats not a problem its a stock rebuilt 2f rebuilt middle of last year so its quite a fresh engine have extractors and a nice free flowing zorst

the lpg setup is a bitsa bit from here bit from there the tank is outta vb comodore the converter is from a te cortina and the mixer ring thing was on it when i got the 4x4 i can get a impco lpg mixer cheap but i have no idea how to fit it into the system without going straight gas

I hear ya, I can only get around 280km too, I dont have a petrol tank at all, so Im a little stuffed there...

I would try advancing the timming untill it pings, then back it off a bit... If it doesn't ping don't give it any more advance than 20Deg..

Ok how many kms would you get out of the same amount of fuel (uld)

also does it run better on gas, or better on fuel...

The motor sounds as though it shuld be good..

Another point with gas is if you want to get it tuned properly, it will need to be done on a dyno, as mixers play a big part in your fuel economy, if its too lean it will give bad economy and vise verser if its rich.. A run on the dyno will tell the operater whats going on, and he will be able to adjust acordinly...

Only prob is it cost's around $100 for a run on the dyno and the tune is on top of that..
I don't know anyone in melbourne area that is LPG acredited with a dyno, I would sugest looking through the gas performance places as the will most likly have a dyno..

I use to be an NRMA patrolman, we had a holden ute on duel fuel, and on gas we would get 210km out of it, not only that but the earlier VR motor did not like LPG at all, we went through 2 sets of heads, and 1 short motor within 1yr, add that to the cost of fitting the lpg, and it is hardly worth doing...
LPG works good with some engines and others it doesn't

well the carby is stuffed and runs like crap on petrol i use 30-35l per 100km on ulp
ive just rebuilt the carby but its no better the insides are rusty so really needs to be replaced

ill have another play with timing tomorrow and might change the points aswell there looking a bit tired

ive been given a contact that charges about 90bux for a dyno lpg tune so might have to make a booking if i cant get it better if i could get around 350kays a tank id be really happy

it seems to have more power and no flat spots on lpg so i intend to run it on gas 90% of the time

btw aint casey a great name :) tho reading this seems like im talking to myself lol

cheers

jeff zepp ran his 2F with a holley 350cfm carby (list 7448). He only changed it out due to its poor performance when wheeling..

as you have gas for wheeling, it might be a good carby to pick up. they are cheap cheap and anybody can rebuild them.

this link shows him pulling the holley off, but you get the idea.. he reckons the mileage was ok on the holley.. i had a spare one but gave it to mechman.. not sure if he is using it...

yeah i have thought about going to a holley but that means id need to change my airfilter setup ect tho means i could prolly make a snorkel fit straight up ill see what fiddling brings my everyday parts place does mechanical repairs and hopefully they can give it a small quick tuneup for me
but a holley has crossed my mind for cheapness and ease of parts :)

2F ? Thats the 4Litre one hey?

I get 450Km's all day in my GQ TB42, its running dual fuel, and I use about the same amount of gas (80Litres), Im running elec ignition, decent leads, High power coil (MSD), and decent plugs (plugs gave me a extra 50km per tank)

So it can be done...and on dual fuel....Would be 2F really be that much different ?

I'm getting 18-20L/100km on the highway and 25-30L/100km round the city on gas. I have a mate who ran gas on a 2f before he converted to the v8 so I'll try and find out what his mileage was.

I had the gas tuned at:

Lakeside Automotive
234 Edwardes St Reservoir 3073 (03) 9462 3224

They have a Dyno there and after fitting a new mixer, tuned it up in a matter of minutes.

Since then, had a play with the timing and it made a huge difference to performance. Haven't looked at econ though.

Try fitting a snorkel or some sort of air intake that forces the air in. I put a snorkel on my old RR and picked up between .5kilometre per litre. Went from about 4km/litre to 4.5 around town up to 5 on the highway.

You will need to retune after fitting the snorkel, but it really did make a difference to it. I now have a 80b series Toyota thingy, that I will be fitting a snorkel to very soon to up the economy only getting about 4.5km/l out of it.

A good clean airfilter is also a must. Don't use those oil ones on gas, should be paper.

My gas mechanic will recommend a snorkel on gas. But whether I recommend my mechanic to others is yet to be seen.

food for thought and best of luck. Always try the little (cheap) things first.
