what about running a hose between the filler
plugs of both cases?

I think mine too has a simialr problem, not so much hot to touch but the oil seems to get really warm and runny, so much so it spalshes up and flows out the shifter hole. Going to try a heavier grade oil ATM it is 75w90 going to try 80w90. I do however need to change one of the bearings to a better quality one as i neglected to do this when installing my duals in a hurry.

Maybe all the oil is going to the front case. 2 mates of mine had their own adaptors made up about 8 years ago and they had that problem to start with. They fixed it by putting a tube between both cases off the filler plugs.

Easy way to check is after going for a run and the case has got hot remove the filler plug on the front case and see if oil comes out of it, if it does then it is to full and the rear case must be to low.

I think you are correct and yes I do think they fill the front case via the shifter hole by removing the shifter
They must have had a hole drilled and taped in the front casing for the hose (I`d have to ask to them to beable to give a 100% answer for both those things)

The AA and the Marlin case both have an oil gallery that feeds both cases. There is no need to run an external hose or fill the front case from the top.

My AA never got that hot that i noticed any problems.

Ruff I`m talking about the adaptors that my mates had made localy about 8 years ago, this was back when marlins were starting to become commonish in the states.

Did you grind the end off your imput shaft?? In one set of instructions I found it said to do that.

check oil levels coz i got an AA adapter and i have only ever filled it up from the rear coz there is oil passage between both cases.

mine doesnt get hot at all even after drivin it 2hrs on freeway,

maybe u guys need 2 pull the rear case apart and check it out maybe the oil passages r blocked or some of the bearings r rooted ??

Show me this set of instructions? You do not need to grind the END of the shaft. Some shafts do need modifying but its defianatly not the END that needs grinding.

Its not the end but it still says to grind the shaft.

This is out of the instructions from the Allpro site.

If the rear transfer case is from a 1979 to 1980 4 speed transmission truck, it will require grinding the larger unused 21 splines on the input gear before it will engage with the crawler output shaft. The left photo above shows duct tape used to protect the outer splines while leaving the larger inner splines exposed. The right photo shows the shaft after the larger splines have been ground away. Do this step slowly and carefully to avoid overheating the shaft.

So if our rear cases are out of 79-80 model this could be the cause??

yer that would be the answer if you and i had that stlye of t-case i have pulled mine out and i remember yours being the same.
They are not the stlye of t-case that they are talking about on the allpro site.

We will sort this out, one day

Pull the shifters and go for a run, you should be able to see the oil being picked up around the gears.

Scott that is the 5spd front case not the rear case. Its the rear case that needs to have the spline modified if it is the full spline style. The 5spd front case is allways the style pictured.
