The way it was explained to me , the EGR recycles carbon and other by- products of combustion back into the engine accentuating wear.
The usual way is to make up an aluminium plate to bolt between the manifold and the EGR fitting blocking it off.
Sorry no pics, not sure how.

For the 3l diesel engine some says that we can remove the spring inside the EGR and put it in the closed position.

I would like to try but it seem to be difficult to access the EGR

No doubt some-one will correct me if I should be wrong here.....

ERG valve = Exhaust Gas Return valve.

Its sposed to recycle a small amount of the exhaust gases back through the engine for a more total burning of the exhaust gas.....
Its sposed to help with the inital warming up of the engine.....
Its sposed to be a part of the engines operating temperature control .....

It will clog up with carbon after about 4 or 5 years anyway
It is imposiable to clean the carbon build up out of it therefore requiring a new one ( factory supplied ofcourse )
It wont effect the motor at all when it becomes clogged
