Outer Limits 4x4 Board

howdy, the other topic was getting pretty big so i thought i would start a newie, my mum and dad are kool with me buying the rangie,
he wants 6500 but i'll offer him 6 and go from there
man i'm bloddy exitied

this rangie has been advertised for a few months now, i remember reading the ad when i was looking for my patrol and almost considered it along with others avail,so he should be negotiable. anything around 6k sounds fair and good luck.

kool as, he said he used to have it for 8500 but has dropped the price since to 6500, needs a new centre console, i an't buying one, they want 700bucks for one, i'll make one for that god damn price

just buy it already.

my mates step dad does gas conversions, he can get me a fully installed set up with 80l tank for 1500, is it gunna be worth getting it installed, and running primarily gas or should i just fork out the money everyday for petrol?

I wouldn't invest that much money into a gas system even with today's petrol prices.
Shop around you can get second hand systems much cheaper.
Also, think about how big a tank you really want and where its going to be mounted. 80l will take up a lot of room inside the car.

I would def recommend trying to get it underneath if possible. Not being able to put the seats downs sucks

I would recommend the opposite - get a 60L tank installed sitting over the right wheel arch - that way you have the 80L fuel tank and the 60L gas tank - if you go underneath you sacrifice fuel range which is a poor way of doing things IMO and you can still put the seats down.

If you Uncle is an installed the get the tank, converter and filler secondhand and you will pretty much have to buy the rest new.
He can supply and get him to show you what you have to do - it is all pretty easy really.

Then you can pay him to tune it and cert it

I agree with Tom on this. I have this exact setup in the back of my Rangie and it works well. The 60l tank does not take up too much room and you can still put the seats down.
With the 3.5 i was getting about 200kms max out of my tank, and the 4.4 seems to be doing even better although i haven't had a chance to use a full tank yet.

Kilometres per litre on gas is worse than fuel although not by a large amount ie gas - 55l for 200kms, fuel - 40l for 200kms.

ah kool, my mate will get mack to me when his step dad gets back from work so hopefully it is a bit cheaper than what a 80L setup is, are there anymodification to the engine that need to be done, ie valves or anything like that, or will the 4L disco engine be right runnning gas?

No mods necessary - some people put a flash lube system on others run their cars for 1 day a week and put flash lube in their fuel to lube the valve seals - apart from that - there is nothing that needs to be done.

Don't run your disco motor on optimax - it tends to burn the exhaust valves - don't know why but we have had several club members have this happen to them

cheers ragin, thats one tip that will save me some stuff ups, when that sorta thing happenings can it be cleaned of while u are driving with normal fuel or do they need to cum out and be manually cleaned?

Well, when the exhaust valves are burned the cease to work so you ususally have to replace all of them on the exhaust side which is quite a big job and can be expensive.

As far as cleaning out the cobwebs there could be a bit of carbon build up in that engine, you can run some RX Super oil for about 3000K and a bit of the old Itallian Tune up with some injector and fuel system cleaner should smarten up any carbon.

drive it round for a week before we start farking with it and then you will be able to tell us what is wrong/different/needs attention

lol sweet as, can't wait to start scrwing around with it, for next u year in design tech we have to design something for 1/2 the year and make it for the other half, i am thinking about making a set of rollar draws, if i get a gas system, should i put the tank ontop of the draws or build the draws around it? the rangie allready has a bull bar (non winch) with a recovery point on it so i'm thinking just to get a hand winch and snatch strap, if i wanna have thses in the draws, are the better woods than others to build them out of? or is got old ply do the job?

I made mine from chipboard, just cause I had it lying around.

booo yeah, he just rang me saying that the headlight, and windscreen got replaced for the roadworty as well as the rear bar getting fixed, then he went on to tell me that he would accept 6000k, is that a score or what, my mate is cuming down with me sunday afta this (he has 3 rangies and kows a shit load about them) to take it for a drive and a once over,
man i'm getting really exitied, i just hope the rear main seal is still right, its a 2000 disco so i hope it wont be too bad plus i didn't see al that much i the way of oil on his garage or engine

lol, yeah been told a few times that rangies piss out the oil, there was a bead of oil sorta thing on the bottem of the engine

Its a factory rust prevention system dude.. dont worry about it
