A question about my ute conversion i had a swb patrol and have converted it to a ute i have used a completely different body (i didn't chop mine) can i de-register my swb and re-register it as a ute but it will have a swb chassis and a ute body does it matter what length chassis i have i have'nt modified it? or the body?
or do i need a mod plate

i dont see a problem in getting it swapped over.
although if you de-register you will need to get
a roadworthy certificate.

road worthy not a problem i can get oe of them with out a car

OK - I did something similar - converted my landie to a ute which is just a matter of unbolting the old roof and sides and bolting new ones on. I was getting my seats approved just after the conversion and asked the engineer if I needed a mod plate for the ute conversion. He said there is no mod code for a bolt on-bolt off ute conversion so it doesn't require approval - just to go down to a transport office and get it changed from "panel-van" to "ute" on the rego papers.

I went to transport, told them what the engineer said, the woman didn't know what I was talking about so went and asked someone else, who told her to call head offíce and ask them. She came back out wanted the engineer's name and approval # who gave me the info, then she went back inside - half an hour later they came out and said that was OK they just needed to have a look at the truck - she took a 5 second look, said it looked good, and went back inside to change the rego details.

So you don't need a mod plate - it will just take them a while - best if you can do what I did and get confirmation from an engineer first that there is no code for the mod, and that way if they argue just give them the ngineer's ph #

you do need a mod plate in qld.

i chopped mine and needed 2 codes.
1 is a panel van to ute code (closest code)
the other is reduction in seating capasity as you now have two seats

however i left mine rego'd throughout the chop.

i would get a plate just for crash, ins etc even if you can get away without it.

also you have to pay more third party for a ute
