Iam new to toyotas so please forgive me if this is a stupid question.

I am buying a 2000 Hilux with 2.7L Petrol 3RZ.
I rang around 4 different LPG istallers and got 4 different answers.

1. Said can not fit as motor was not LPG compliant.
2. Said could fit factory LPG item for $2900
3. Said could fit but would need $1600 head overhaul to suit gas + 2200 for tank etc.
4. said no worries motor is fine to do but recomended a oil drop kit to help lube cylinder and upper head for 1650-2100 depending on computer mods needed.

They also said late cars with this motor came with sticker to say if it was compliant for LPG but mine does not have one. I thought any unleaded motor could run on LPG because they had hardened valves and seats to start with?????

Any help appericated
Cheers

hello n_dorphin

hows it going ??

talk about getting the run around.

you are correct most cars after 1986 use hardend valves & valve seats.

if the lgp system is set up correctly you will not burn out valve

most lgp systems run lean on freeway driving witch causes the burnt valve. cracked piston rings etc

the flashlube system will lube the valve to degrease it slightly
but its only a cover up
to incorrectly adjusterd mixers or poor design systems

id suggest using IMPCO. OHG. or gas research converters & mixers

i assume that your going dual fuel & not strait gas
if your going strait gas use GRS (gas research)

stay away from the italian system
thay work well for about 12months or so than the converters & mixers play up at times need replacing

you may pay more for the usa brands (ohg & impco)
but there better. and you will save on repairs in the long run &
the grs system is australian made & designed

the better gas tanks are the APA

if you need anymore info pm me

hope that helps

Thanks for the info.
It will be dual fuel. Does anything else needed to be considered when fitting LPG.

Can anyone recomend anyone in brisbane who does good installs??

What economy would i get from the 3RZ on LPG in a Cab Chassis 4X4?

Cheers

Hi mate,
We fit the OEM endorsed IMPCO conversion at work, and i can tell you now that if you fit gas to a 3RZ that does not have that sticker on the rocker cover, you WILL burn out valves, we saw one die in 6000km! Let me search the paper work for you on monday and i will PM you monday nite with more details if you like.
