Outer Limits 4x4 Board

putting new shocks through out in my HJ60 and the two names that keep popping up are tough dog and pro comp...I have had little to do with either make and I was hoping for a bit more of a unbiased opinion from you guys.

I have checked out their sites but of course they give there most biased opinion they can muster up.

any info would be great!!!

Well last Thursday i just put a complete suspension in my Hilux and put Tough dog adjustables all the way round must say i like them so far i`ve set mine at 3 on the front and 2 at the rear.I`ve also had a return to centre steering dampner fitted at this is good onroad. As for the shocks off road i cant comment just yet as havent had time to go off road so i have to wait till christmas now

i have tough dogs on my lux, (not adjustables). i find them good off road and on . i had them on for two months and one of the rear ones started to leak. i hadn't even had them off road at that stage, : just on a dirt road full of corrugations. i rang the supplier and they shipped me a new one before i had sent the old one no questions asked. i have thrashed them for three years now with no other probs

my next shocks are going to be tough dog adjustables big bores

3 to zip in favour of the tough dogs...interesting to say the least...but keep the comments coming please!

After lifting my 80 with spacers the koni's ended up being too short so I've got some Tough Dog Adjustables ordered after a quick bit of resaerch and reading write ups here and there. Now when they arrive (hopefully for the weekend) I'll let you know how they go. The Konis are an ace shock and will be hard to beat, but decided against them and went adjustable as the car is used for all 4WD pursuits from fully loaded with kids and camping gear to 2 blokes, beer and beers.

Got new pro comps (non adjustables) on my cruiser, fantasic on road and equally as good off, no experience with tough dog though

had an excellent run with 2"koni's on my HJ60.
had them so hot the paint changed colour but they still worked fine for about 3 years till i sold it.
due to the load i always had in it i set the rear shock up 1/2 a turn harder to stop it bottoming out on big dips.

Running full set of OME on teh 80 - they are reliable cheap to replace and like a55holes -they are easily replacable cause they are everywhere.

Hards in the rear and twin soft in the front - work a treat - good on road manners even without sway bars and off road keep the tyres to the ground.

Seen the Tough DOG big bores on some cars now - and they work well from the outside - my housemate used the old style non adjustables(TD's) on his 80 and loved them - did teh Cape and Nt without any leaking (60,000km on them now)

up to you. I went value and reliability versus any other real motivation - I didn't need the bling factor... and they are cheap to replace once they get tired!!

I have just put at complete set of tough dogs on my NP paj with a 3"lift only because they were the only company who could do it. I also race cars so I have some idea on shocks, in off road driving at slow speed it doesn't matter what type you have they all work the same it is only when your flogging up a long rough corro track where the better brands will not allow the oil to over heat or the gas to bubble and the the shock doesn't keep the wheel on the groud correctly, I would look mainly at the price to determain what brand you buy I also had a set of Pro Comps on my last NH paj 2"lift they worked fine if you are going to race then spend about 2k and you'l be fine

Just put procomp ES9000's in my 80 series and they seem to be very good. Previous set just werent long enough after putting in coil spacers so I went for a longer shock. After changing them, I could not beleive the difference in handling and comfort. Off road they have served well so far

Have Koni on my Rangie but are about to try EFS on the front. My Sierra had RS9000 Rancho rear which were fantastic as I could adjust them to suit each individual SS. If we were running "loaded" we would wind them up as well as for high speed stages but if we were running unloaded or low speed big flex we would simply wind them down. Rebound only dampening though. On the front I had ES3000 Pro Comps and they were great. The light valving on the 3000 was perfect for the Zook even with Bar plus High Mount plus Optima battery plus air comp etc.

I have the 45mm Tough Dogg adjustables on my 80 and they r wicked..

I ditched the Ranch rs9000x's for em and they r heaps better..
