Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I have just had my injector pump overhauled, but now have excessive smoke under acceleration, and the truck seems sluggish, but improves as soon as I hit 1600rpm.
The mechanic noted that when he got the pump back from the servicer, it had been dropped (one of the bolt mounting holes was slightly crushed and needed to be opened before it could be refitted).
Could this be incorrect timing adjustment or an injector problem?, although before I had the pump worked on there was very little smoke.

I have noticed that the majority of the Safari's (mavs?) over here do smoke badly though, so is it a common problem?

did you get your injectors changed over when u did the pump overhaul?

No, just the pump overhaul, as I thought that the injectors would be ok as it never had a problem with smoking before that.

Looking into that would be a good idea.

Same principle applies for changing the oil without changing the filter as well.

It would be worth checking that the pump timing( or amount of plunger lift) is correct. When re-fitting the pump, there are timing marks on the drive gears, that when the engine is set to cyl 1 at top-dead-center, must line up. Then,when the injection pump is bolted up to the engine, there is a mark scribed into its base, that needs to line up with a mark scribed into the back of the timing cover. Aligning the pump with this mark, gets the pump timing in the ballpark--the most accurate method is to use a dial guage to measure the amount of plunger lift in the pump for a given crankshaft position in relation to T.D.C.

I found that when i checked the plunger lift at the factory mark, it was only 0.40mm@T.D.C. Rotating the pump to the Nissan manuals spec of 0.75mm gave me much better economy and performance, but the amount of injection noise and smoke increased..
