I am about to go travelling around Australia in a Hilux dual cab.
Is this a suitable vehicle to "do" the outback in?
What are it's faults and what are it's pros.
Any information would be appreciated.

Ive heard of everything from old holdens to old landcruisers, depending on the yaer it should be pretty good!
id say go in a toyota as parts are readily available, and i know how to fix broken shiat on them! but go with what you know!
If i had enough money or a choice, id probably take a GXV lexus for the comfort thats is the vehicle to "do" the outback in!

My uncle took a Dual-cab Hilux to the Cape and back 3 times and it didn't have a problem.
He then wanted more power so upgraded to a V6 commodore engine and did a trip around OZ!
By having the Dual-cab (and no kids) he removed the rear seats and fitted it out with a fridge/freezer and heaps of other cool stuff to make those long days more comfy!
Oh i forgot the third time to the cape he was towing a camper trailer, that was the main reason for the power upgrade!

To each there own, the hiluxes are much better than old 40 series' for touring thats for sure, sounds like a top rig!!!
diff/axle wise they are VERY strong too!!

Took my 2.8 with ARB turbo, 3" lift, long range tank, bars front and rear, snorkel around no probs. Had the following issues:
1- Make sure you have good diff and box breathers.
2-Check everything each day if you are on rough dirt roads. The strangest thingd get loose.
3- get a snorkel and use an air ram with pre sock on it, if you donthave a turbo the cyclic will be fine.
That was about ig really. I took 3 mths and had a ball. Loved the hilux and it performed well for me.
