ZD30 Nissan Turbo on a 4BD1

There is one in the for sale section. Any ideas how his would go on the 4BD1?

Which model turbo? - I assume it is a Garett - Nissan seem to usually use them - which model garett? how big is the nissan engine?.

It's off the 3lt Patrol Diesel. I assume it would be a garret but i'm not sure of which one.

If it works on a 3L it should be fine on the 4BD1.

Look at the Kw and Tq rating of the zd30 to get an idea of what sort of airflow the turbo can support.

I suspect this turbo will probably be a good match as it will come on boost early on the bigger motor and wont overspeed before the 4bd1 reaches its rev limit (much lower than the zd30).

How is the variable pitch/nozzle controlled on these?

Have heard reports of these being problematic on zd30's, check patrol forum.

I was advised by turboglide to avoid using ball bearing cores on diesels. He stated they were seeing high failure rates (rodeos in particular) and stated he thought the higher contaminants in diesel oiling system were getting trapped in the bearings and causing premature failure, as opposed to a plain bearing turbo.
