Ive just been 2 see an engineer bout getting my POS engineered and he wants me to fit a longer steering shaft (because of my bodylift). He says that one from an import Surf is longer than a Hilux one. Anyone know of this??

If this is true and i cant track one down or they're 2 costly I will just get a Snake Racing steering shaft xtension.

Cheers

I have power steering, but no IFS box.
how much longer is the manual steering one?

My 84 lux steering shaft was too short after body lift (2 inches), found a longer one on a 88 surf.

I don't have power steer.

If you go this way you need to have the welds X-rayed for engineer. I'm in same boat- think I will look at the Surf shafts. Thanks for the tip!

Ok, I went to wreckers today and looked at two Hiluxes without p/s. Only thing is when i looked at them there was the std uni joint just b4 the shaft goes into the steering box and there was also another uni just before the shaft goes thru the firewall. The shafts on Hiluxes with p/s have a uni on the inside of the cab so therefore they appear to be longer than the non p/s luxes. Or is there more shaft that goes in thru the firewall on the non p/s ones that would make them longer?

Hope this makes sense.

when i went from no power steer to standard power steer i cut 40mm off the standard steering shaft wich i now regret due to the current x over mods that im doin

my no ps shaft has a uni in the cab then the shaft goes through the firewall down to the box and thats it
mines a 89 ln106 diesel

Yeah mines LN106 too. Would I be better off getting a Snake steering shaft extension and save myself the hassle of chasing down a shaft that seems to be an unknown length??

Did they go up in price lately? They were like $120 not so long ago.

Also, its not much more than what the wreckers are charging for the shaft anyway.

Just checked the Snake site and the steering shaft extension will be too long for me to use. It says they should be used for 3" bodylift or x/o steering.

you can still use the teering extender on two inch body lift cause im doing one on the weekend if you have a uni joint just on the inside of the firewall and one at the box you will have three adjustment one at the box and two inside the cab to push it back up inside itself and fit the extender

hope it helps as far as i know they are engineerable alot better than cutting and welding

What about a spacer of some sort in the little rubber flexi joint? Anyone think that this might work?

Im gonna go and checkout a couple more wreckers 2moro and measure up some 60s shafts also.

Just to confirm, the Snake Racing Steering Shaft Extension will be too long for this application, and the price has recently gone up to $150. Hope this helps.[/quote]

just fitted a steering shaft extender to a 2 inch body lifted car and it does fit when you do ifs conversion for x over

Running a Snake extension no probs on a 2" body lift, since Sept 2003, on a 92 mod.

Do u have x/over steer tho? As this would mean the IFS box is further down the chassis rail, therefore allowing the Snake extension to fit.

Nope, just the shitty flogged out draglink setup.

mine is an 87 model & on that model u can cut some length off of the spline at the top of the shaft witch will give u enough room 4 the snake adaptor
