2H to 1HZ swap

how much different are the 1HZ's to 2Hs.

ie bell housing, engine mounts, input shaft lengths the same, etc.

or how hard is it to swap a 1HZ for a 2F?

I swapped 3f for a 1hz.

The chassis engine mounts are different between the petrols and diesels, but from what measurements i have made from my old 40 series with a 3b the diesel engine mounts are the same, ie 3b 2h 1hz.

As far as input shaft spline count that could be a problem, ie 1hz finer spline, and as far as the bellhousing use the 1hz. should bolt up to h41 or h55. :)

thanks cliffy. am thinkin of getting another 4by, but set it up for longer trips/campin. all depends how hard it is, as to what i get.

with the clutch, couldnt you just use the 1HZ's pressure plate and the 2Fs clutch plate?

I have replaced the 2H with a 1HDT in a 60 series.
Used the original box and a bell housing from a troopie that had the same gearbox with a 1HZ ('90-'92 I think). Used a 1HZ flywheel, 60 series cluth plate and pressure plate, and an 80 series throw out bearing. You need to hang the bearing out of the flywheel a bit to connect with the input shaft, or machine 5mm or so off the bell housing. All electrics, fuel & exhaust were on the opposite side, and needed a fuel filter assembly as well. Used 80 series engine mounts but had to space them out from the chassis as the 60 series is wider than an 80 series. Had to put a larger fuel line through from the pick up in the tank, and used the original 6mm as the return line.

Bloody ripper now, used to do 2nd gear burnouts with 33's, but now has 35's with 8% overdrive transfer, but still cruises up hills at 110 in 5th.

So i take it that were talking about the gear box out of HJ60?

I was under the impression the input shaft for a 2H gearbox would be too short for the 1HZ too, but it looks like quick60 found a way around the problem. I'm in the middle of swapping a 1HDT into an HJ75, but I'm getting around the input shaft problem by using a gearbox out of an HZJ73.

Wish I could comment on the engine mounts but the ones on my HJ75 were ground away as soon as the 2H was pulled out. I have a set of mounts for an HZJ75 I am going to use.

The radiator have different inlets on opposite sides.

quick60, did your tacho work with the 1HDT sender? How about the temp and oil gauge?

Hi The 12ht clutch and 1hz clutch are thesame spline apparently....

I had to go to an instrument bloke who put some diodes on the tacho to get the count right, a bit of mucking around, but it's pretty close now. Temp and oil guages were OK

And yes the radiator inlet had to be moved to the other side
