In the V6 motors you should be running thin oil. something like 10W or below.
And which machanic told you that so we will stay away from them.
suziE and huggy.

My recommendation would be get your husband/boyfriend/dad to take it to another mechanic and see what response you get.

Hydraulic tappets on the V6 models, mines starting to get a bit noisy as well I’m thinking a getting the timing chain replaced, it’s not a scheduled item but if its goes I hear it’s bad news, been some bad reports from overseas.

what effect do unadjusted tappets have on performance wear etc on the engine? Is it just a noise thing? it makes the little zuke sound tough.

Mine was gettin a bit noisy at 110 thou K's, only on warm up though. I had to replace my water pump and while i was in there i replaced the main cam chain tensioner. It has been updated ( so Suuki said.. the part number changed anyway) Noise went away. These Engines are pretty tough and I have heard they only suffer problems if cheap multigrade oil has been used (not 10w30 as recommended) apparently the tops ends (cams) wear in the head. Is the noise definately coming from the Engine ? not an exhaust shield or buggered cat converter etc.. I have flogged mine all its life from new and its never missed a beat. I do use good oil and service it regular though..
