I have an 85 paj running 2.5 td. Wondering what mods i can make. i.e. body lift. i am running 31x10.5x15 wrangler mtr's. great tyre offroad. Is it worth me taking swaybars off or leaving them on. considering just taking rear off for now to see how it goes. Any advice would be appreciated.

Great car you've got there! I drive an 83 turbo diesel SWB. With mine I have got a safari snorkel, 85 litre Brown Davis long range replacement tank (also available in 105 litres but this tank will lower your clearence by 2 inches), two hiclones, one ITG air filter. I myself don't know much about mods for these cars, but I am very pleased with my car. :P

Yeah a 2" body lift is pretty straight forward as is a 2" suspension lift.
With that amount of lift you can safely run 33x12.5x15" tyres.
I'd remove the rear swaybar first to get used to the way it handles. Removing the front bar results in pretty major handling changes so be careful with that one.

i have rplaced the suspension with old man emu shocks and rear leaves. i also have a long ranger fuel tank which has a 136l capacity. i also have garmin gps, undien uhf/scanner. The next mods i am looking at are torsion bar replacement and extended shackles. Thanks for the advice bitsa i'll take it off this arvy as i am going driving tommorrow night. Give me a chance to get used to it. Can anyone recommend a good brand of replacement for the torsions.

Why do you want to replace your torsion bars?

i am still running the factory ones and they are getting a bit long in the tooth. I have also run out of adjustment.

The adjustment thing is an easy fix - remove the bar, remove the adjustment lever off the end, and rotate one spline - you get your adjustment back.

These springs are now nice and supple - good for articulation off road. If you go for new springs, either original factory spec or "heavy duty," the higher spring rate will start to lift the body sooner, and hence start to lift the opposite wheel sooner - you lose articulation and off-road capability. This argument ignores the ride quality issues.

If you want stiffer springs for any reason (steel bar with winch and additional batteries etc.) or off-road ability is less important then any of the established "name" suppliers should be able to help you out - the market is too competitive for shonky products to last.

Cheers,

Scott

took the rear swaybar off on the weekend. Jacked the rear end up to take my road tyres off and put my off roads on. Jumped underneath to take the swaybar off and low and behold only had one d mount. Must have snapped one while it was under flex. With taking out the torsion bars do you have to support the weight of the suspension or can you let the front end droop.

Hoping to have some photos from my next trip out (hopefully)

seriously considering the 2"body lift. Does anyone know of someone that can do this in southeast qld, preferrably on the northside of brissy. Also with regards to the extended shackles are they advantageous and once again looking for somewhere that stcoks and fits them. Bitsa when we getting more photos of the sas? (waiting in anticipation)
