Outer Limits 4x4 Board

In relation to my previous post on retrofiiting a P76 4.4 into my 77 Rangie, I have the following question.

The original twin Carb set up won't fit the 4.4 due to the wider block etc etc. The new motor is running a small single barrel carb which seems a bit restrictive. I don't want to go EFI so what carbs due you guys run and where do I get one?

Does the Quadrajet have issues with slopes etc. I have a 350 holley, haven't had as many issues since the float level was lowered, vent whistle was also fitted. I know people have mixed feelings about the holley for offroad work.

The old carbs and manifold will fit, you just need to make an adaptor/spacer plate out of aluminium that fits on either side. IMHO CD's are about the best carb on hills, and they will provide enough fuel for the 4.4.

the rochy has no isues with hils and slopes.

Nut as I R says you can make the RR carbs fit easily.

I would go the twin Stommies myself, but like Micheal has mentioned, the Quadrajet seems to work okay out of the non-standard carbs out there.

I had forgotten how smooth the old Strommies were until I bought the 83, as smmoth almosty as the 3.9 EFI in Aquarangie

I had the original Rangie carbs on my 4.4 for about 18 months and then chucked them. They don't allow enough air at higher revs. Run a 500 holey, but it stalls on steep drop offs. But I run on gas most the time so it is not an issue.

I've got spacers and the original rover manifold.
Had a sealing problem, but made new gaskets and the vacuum leak is gone.

I also have SUs, not the original strombergs.
The SUs don't have a diaphragm, so are simpler, and that's 1 less part to break.
