just a question on changin seats
if i take the mounts off a hilux seat but keep the runners is it possible to then change over to another set of mounts which are the same width and mount them onto the hilux runners???
does any one follow that jargon?

ask phippsy, he has seats out of a honda or something really comfy like that.

i dont know about the mounts though.

yep, my seats came out of a Honda Prelude I think, one of the Honda's with comfy side and hip bolstering anyway. Three of the four mounting points lined up exactly with the standard ones for my hilux, 1 needed a 1" spacer on the back left mount to keep the seat level and the back right mount needs to have a piece of plate welded on to extend the mount, only about 2" more so it will line up with the last captive nut.
The 2 front mounts on the seat are folded the same as the standard hilux ones and fit perfectly in the original mounts.

with a little booty fab it's possible to get almost any seat into almost any truck, I have done a few (probably into the dozens of not a hundred or so) seat conversions, and my method usually involves removing all the brackets off the original seats, and attempting to graft them onto the donor seats. they times when this doesn't work is when the bottom of either the original or the donor seats aren't flat. width and length of the seat bases are easily sorted out with some 3mm plate. sometimes it's necessary to go full custom in which case I find it's best to get the seat in there, prop it up with bits of timber etc to get it positioned correctly, then measure very carefully what's required for the brackets. some welding and cutting skillz come in handy.

Dumb I thought it was illegal to to cut/weld seat brackets. I thought I'd read on here before that they have to be made fit with flat plate and bolts. Did you have any dramas with your jobbies getting through rego. I'm asking cause one of the mounts on mine is cracked and needs welding and I was hoping to graft them onto diff seats.

You just get yours from a jap wreckers or one one of those specific jap import wreckers. How much did they set you back out of interest?

it probably is. I always make a point of making my seat brackets about 1000% stronger than the factory brackets, and no, never ha a drama at rego. sometimes a comment along the lines of "overkill on the seat bracket" but never any suggestion it was illegal or unregisterable. Last seat install I did was on 2HI4U's GQ, aerotech seats grafted onto the factory sliders. no welding but some tricky nut and bolt work.

Thanks Phippsy. Id rather blow the 150-200 on a nice set of seats rather than just another set of surf seats.
