Ok, so the back of 90-94 cruisers have a habbit of cracking, it does put me off, how have the Majority of cruiser owners rectified this problem, I would assume if it was welded it would crack around the weld next time, is this problem expected to HAUNT the owner forever?????

Where abouts are they cracking? I inspected my C pillars which have be known to crack and they havent cracked yet. I have done some rework on cracked welds before and on sheet metal it's quite simple to stop it, just drill a hole and either end of the crack and weld it up, and 99% of the time it wont crack again.

Yes it is the C pillars near the back doors, and around the rear end also, what I want to know is: have all the people that have experienced this problem solved it easily or is it a problem that will come back? is it poor design?

I think it's the steel being folded too sharply and it just stresses it too much and cracks it, seeing as they don't heat bend them or anything. That's all I know

It seems the area is much more rounded than a Patrol, so the stress must be from another area being weak also???

Not having stuck my head under an 80 ser for a while do they have bocks to help support the body like the 40serSWB that aren't bolted. If so when you do a body lift they are normally not raised is this something to look at.

yeah I hear all the time that the C Pillar is supposed to be weak on earlier 80's as the fold is too tight and the metal was stressed. Yet to hear of one that was repaired cracking again though. As already described, drilling a hole at either end of the crack before re- welding will fix the problem

I dont think it is a weakness in any area so much as general body/ chassis flex that can be found in almost any LWB wagon that has been driven failry hard over a few years. The hard crease make the area vunerable.

You will see a lot of older patrols, 80 series etc with rust in the side windows. I was once told that this is the result of the body flexing and rubbing the paint away making the area vunerable for water sitting and causing rust. This is a symptom of the same weakness that causes the c pillar crack

Sharp folds in the metal eh ??

And here I was thinking that the joint is braised together !
