I am wanting to remount my driving lights above the hoop but I am concerned it might effect airflow to the radiator, as I dont want overheating issues over summer. Just wondering peoples thoughts.

Cheers Dazz

i would try it and see. do you run electric or engine fan? it wont make a difference when driving slow, only on highway driving.

don't think it will have any real effect unless radiator already had inefficiencies.

If you have a clutch type fan... it shouldnt affect it that much as when you speed up the fan cuts out and there should be sufficient air flow for it too kool down.

Otherwise, look at fitting a bigger fan from a 1HZ, or check out a truck wrecker and find a phat mack truck one or something.

Im about to mount my lights in front of my radiator (hella ralleye 2000 on a hilux) so may need to come back here for reference =]

i put lf240's on the front of my lux..

i was worried about airflow cos the 2 of them pretty much block 50% of the radiator...

12 months on and i havent noticed any difference at all.

ymmv

i run a hi mount, twin XGT's and they pretty much cover my whole radiator.

Ive tried without my thermo fans and yes i did notice my temp go up a fair bit, but i havent tested it on the highway yet and will do shortly.

BTW my thermos do a good job ;)

Mine blocked airflow and raised engine temp a bit, but problem was solved with thermofans. I'd fit them where you really want them to go first and then worry about the heat from there because it may not even be a issue

I mounted mine on top of the bar so it dont block the air flow

I was worried about the same thing when I put 2 LF170's and 20m of coiled winch cable right infront of the grill. Turned out it didn't make squat difference. The radiator is one of the most effective parts of the car though, despite all the collapsed, bug infested sections - after it initially rises to almost 3/4 of the dial (which I assume is cause the themostat kicks in a little late and the fan stays still) it sits on 1/2 regardless, highway, town, beach, crawling, hot or cold.

if you have 3B with the standard cowl you will be fine!
