I'm thinking of buying a Hilux with a 2lt MR2 turbo engine in it, it has a aftermaket intercooler with polished pipeing garett t25 turbo, and westco pistons, it has a engine maginment system etc. i was just wondering how it would handle mud, and water? would i be able to use it has a normal 4x4 or would it be just for show?
Cheers Nick

sounds like a poser mobile to me.
i would tread carefully on that one.
i cant imagine mud and water treating it too well.
those motors wouldnt be designed with that kidna abuse in mind.
but hey if bling is your thing.....

don't really care if the shine goes i was just tryinh to give an idear what it was all about, i just want to drive it in mud and up hills and stuff like that, my friend has a 1991 hilux it has the normal 22r engine and it had a huge cry all that was wroung was that the leads were a bit wet, so i was thinking if you could water proof the engine with like silcone spray or some thing???? oh the guys selling it for 10 grand is that a rip off?
Cheers

The 3SGTE as bubs said is a hard engine to fit into RWD. It was mounted east west in both the RWD MR2 and the 4WD GT4 Celica. If they have mounted it properly they may have done away with the distributor in its traditional position as it would have fouled on the firewall. If this is the case they would have probably gone for an ignition coil for each cylinder to be run off the after market engine management and that will be much more suitable for water related activites (water in dissy is usually what stops petrols right). Water proof all the important bits and I would think it could be a pretty capable truck. The 3SGTE can be set up to make alot of torque, maybe not as well set up for crawling as a turbo diesel though. I put one of these engines in an old celica and it went like a .......like a.......like a zertec
. could have had something to do with the 20 psi boost it was running (decompressed engine and water to air IC). Take it for a test drive and see what u think for yourself.

Everytime i see you username for some reason i automaticly think ST185
3S GTE is a really strong engine, i am not sure about it as a 4WD engine though. There are 3SGTE's with over 100hp per clyinder

LOL, I had a ST165 head on a ST185 block in a ST162 but my username refers to my VZN185 Hilux Surf (New shape 96 on). I signed up with the same name as I use on the surf forum and well when I say my surf I mean it belongs to the mrs....and I drive the shitbox 40.
