I have this cylinder on the chassis near the handbrake drum on my shorty MK which runs to the rear brake drums. I was wondering what it does? and if it's necessary? why don't the shorty MQ's have them?
(Screwy I started a new thread so I wouldn't bugger yours up)
cheers

If I am correct in my thinking - it should be your brake bias valve set-up - this is used to proportion the amount of brake capacity between the front and rear.... if you set the brakes equal all around the rear would lock up first under brakes.... the bias lets less fluid go to the rears compared to the fronts so you can pull up without flatting the rears or loosing control....
I may be wrong but I am pretty sure that is waht u talking about.....

yer that makes sense, that rings a bell now you mention it.
Anyone know if you can fit those adjustable brake bias valves in place of these, bigballsoffroad sell them $130. It is currently is my rear wheels that always lock up first anyway. I don't think the current bias is adjustable.

You have a lifted truck so you have reduced the rear bias.
Surely you can a/ bend the arm or
b/ change the spring tension
rather than just throwing money away.
You need to fool the valve in to thinking you have a load in the rear.
I have also in the past fitted an inline valve from an HQ Holden to improve brake balance

The bias is used on all LWB and only some shorties.
I believe its to do with the master cylender fitted.
There are 2 different types of masters and at a few small variatoins between these.
There is the short one with the round resevoir and the longer one with the rounded rectangular type of one.
niether of my shorties that ive got at present have it and they are both diesel SWB MQs. ( at least one was diesel

)
I cant remember if the 3 MK pettys i had had it......
I know the MK petty LWB me and shawn stripped had one also.
from wat i can see the earlier brake masters, specifically desiel, were larger and didnt need the bias added......
screwy
