been looking around for winches, what is the better choice and why do most people go for high mounts when they cant pull as much. or can they??

wait for the brawn hi mount - im waitin for it

high mount - for speed (faster) but less pulling power for bigger rigs

Low mount for strength and pulling power (slower)

High mounts are so much quicker it isn`t funny and you can modify them heeps with faster motors, better cooling, etc etc then if you realy want to goods go for a 24v system with a comp ready high mount. The big advantage is that since they are so much quicker when under no load it means there is less setup time and less pack up time so when you are under the clock its a big help as every second counts. Even in Woodpecker a quicker winch can be the differance between 1st or 4th, because if 4 people finish the whole caurse and all have 1 winch each and finishing with the same points then time comes in to it and the one who did it the quickest wins.

If I was you I`d only concider a high mount if you intend on doing winch challenge events.

As for the lesser pulling power over a 9000lb its not very often that in comps you need to go a double pull and 90% of the time if you need to with a comp spec high mount then you`d need to even with a 9000lb.

Oh and a high mount is still quicker then a HS9500lb. But if you want low mount, pulling power and some speed then a HS9000 would be the go

I've owned a 10 000lb Hydrolic Ox, 9000lb Warn Low Mount and a 8000lb Hi- Mount. With the new 6hp Warn motor the Hi Mounts are better than ever. Nearly twice the cable, you can drive and winch, heaps of mods available, better when winching around even a slight corner because the cable doesn't hit the bull bar after two wraps....... An old crusty guy once told me that low mounts are for people who want to tell their friends they have winch.

walk into ARB hand over $2900 for the high mount then the extra $$$ for the 6hp motor
now i know nobody actually pays that much, but that is reatil on em & bloody expensive

......and then a few hundred more for decent dual batteries

$800 for an older one. Put the money towards motor and mods have it overhauled and tricked up total less than $2000
